After a minor delay due to technical difficulties, the latest information on Guild Wars 2 Sylvari Week made it to the ArenaNet blog.
"I love how their virtue blends with their innocence and then contrasts with the darkness of the world surrounding them. This disparity illuminates the sacrifices, gallantry, and tragedies of Tyria's war with the dragons," Design team member Angel McCoy writes. She delves into the lives, loves, and duties of the Sylvari race, answering several questions that fans have been asking, such as how they're born, the intricacies of their emotional attachments, their view of the world around them, and much more.
This entry follows the fashion of previous GW2 race weeks and includes several audio clips to flesh out the text, so be sure you give them a listen. The blog post and audio clips can be found at the ArenaNet blog.

Something about the above picture that just doesn't look like 2011 graphics to me, but then they're in some level of development so... Unfinished and all that...

I know what you mean. It looks like a lower resolution or something. The other image in the blog under Designing the Sylvari from Scratch is much more impressive. Though considering all the other screens and videos put forth so far, I don't doubt the Sylvari experience will be nothing short of visually amazing.

I love the fact they don't look the same old elf race in every single other Fantasy game but..... will they wear the same armor as everyone else or is it going to be like plate/leaf armor?
I hate their clothing =(

@shale00 oooh dont be sad. Im sure there will be plenty of looks. Even with armour and/or what they 'naturally' look like. But check out the blog for more details. Their normal clothes or their racial armour is basically the plant part growing from them to form it. It sounds and looks interesting!!

@shale00 I think the clothing is a little odd, I liked it when it was more human-style/elfy, a sylvari "costume" as opposed to sylvari clothing the way Kristen Perry puts it. In general, my struggle with the sylvari is the degree to which their now-increased alieness shifts them toward the uncanny valley for me.
The main issue though, IMO, is those voices. The men sound really, really old. Especially combined with the models, which I'm not going to call feminine, but are clearly quite youthful in desgin, it seems like a poor fit.

They've set up their lore to be very flexible indeed. It's good that you won't feel forced to color the race as one personality type nor have every newborn Sylvari know the same things.
I'm not liking the centaur tablet as a mechanic to shape the Sylvari. So not only were they new to the world but they could read a foreign language? And they arbitrarily decided the tenets were points to follow? Eh, that'll make me feel more sympathetic to any Sylvari who question such teachings which is at least hinted at in an audio clip, as tame as a classroom format may be.

Technically, Ventari, who made the tablet you are referring to, is like their creator/god, as he was the one who planted what would become The Pale Tree.
Its no weirder than some guy talking to a burning bush and taking its word as his religions commandments.

They learned language from the Pale Tree, just as newborn sylvari do now. The tree was awake and sentient, as far as we know, when Ventari was alive, and so in a sense she "knew" him, understood that he was working for peace, and would be likely to want to pass on those teachings to her children.
