There's a lot going on in the wasteland these days, and the Fallen Earth dev blog updated with a bird's eye view of all the shenanigans over the weekend. First and foremost, the 1.9.2 patch is on the way (it's currently scheduled for tomorrow, in fact), and the blog entry has the patch notes ready for your perusal.
Along with the requisite combat, skills, and recipe updates, the big news is the expansion of the game's fast travel mechanics. Players are now able to zip between certain LifeNet pod locations, with additional destinations becoming available as LifeNet's supplies are restocked. The fast travel system necessitates mission turn-ins at each pod location that a player wishes to use, and the mechanic also features level, chip, and knowledge requirements.
That's not all there is to 1.9.2, of course, and the update notes are pretty extensive. Head to the Fallen Earth dev blog to read new info on progress towns, mission updates, and a laundry list of other tweaks.

I agree. It's not like we have to use it. We, as gamers, are not powerless to it's temptation.
Fallen Earth is so well made that skipping the scenery, is skipping 95% of the game.
It's there if we need it, but I don't see it becoming a crutch. ^_^

I played FE for about six months and awhile ago and it's sad to see the game losing certain charms like travel. The game already has vehicles and horses.and they gain a huge speed boost on roads... seems like a lowest-common-denominator addition IMO. Too bad.

Exactly. I shy away from games with fast travel, since the mechanic attracts and caters to the type of personality which I tend avoid, the sort of person who misses the point entirely -- like Neofit, for example.

Actually now I may resubscribe. You don't have to use fast travel you know? You didn't even have to use horses and vehicles either, but you weren't THAT hardcore, were you?
If a game needed fast travel, it's FE. The map is HUGE and mostly empty. I clocked the time it took me to ride from Sector 2 to 3, 22 minutes. 22 minutes of a completely uneventful journey, nothing to harvest, nothing to discover, a couple dozen of easily avoidable crabs near the S3 border... It was only fun the first time, when I went to visit S3 at level 16, it was all new and every bush was scary. After that, it was just a big annoyance. Zero challenge, zero fun.

I was hoping FE would do fast travel a little differently, such as a train system that runs between certain towns, or even incorporate the monorail system that is currently in the game, but for looks only. I understand the way they are doing it gives them a quick way to implement travel, but in the long term I would like to see one of these others alternatives make their way in the game.

Once this game goes F2P I will be back on it. I would play now but I am currently playing a P2P one.

I have mix feelings with the fast travel. On one hand I love to travel the map and have the occasional "oh! resources!" and side track to them and some times I just want to get from point A to point B ASAP. I will not say that fast travel is wrong and they should have not implemented it. My solution is that if I want to take my time I will use my bike and do all of the resource farming I can and if I want to go somewhere fast I will do fast travel. For the people complaining all I can tell you is, you know it is optional, right?
I love this game, having tons of fun with it :) once it goes F2P I will keep my sub rolling as the best way to appreciate a good game by throw a couple of bucks their way. Guess you can do that with the store as well.
I just hope they don't implement a crappy bonus points like AOC did. I saw it and I got pissed off (I have the yearly sub), 60 points per month, you have to wait 4 months to get one item. No thank you! I feel like they are nickle and dimming me.

Fast travel in FE will be a welcome thing for many people, including myself. As much as I enjoy hopping on the bike, into the interceptor or even the relaxing gallop of Abacus. Sometimes I just want to get to point A immediately to get what I can done within the time I have available to play.
FE’s world is expansive and hides a lot of neat things if you explore. The game is simply going to cater to the folks who want to play but don’t have a lot of time to spend traveling upwards of 15 minutes to get to an objective, as well as those who want to explore the wastelands regardless of time.

If fast travel is causing people to complain, imagine what flying mounts would do?

I want to try this game out again once it goes f2p. If I still enjoy it I will re-sub but I can't bring myself to do it b4 it goes f2p.
