I am surprised as well, with all the "let's hook consoles online and charge for any dlc content" I'd thought, by now, having MMOs (or MMO-lites) on consoles would be fairly common.

I understand about the (IMO, silly) set server architectures and all the rules and contract/money obligations, but the way this last gen has embraced online, they haven't really done a good job with games and MMOs in particular. It just underlines that they are more money-grubbing than usual. I am an either/or person. Either take my console offline (and let me use my Game Shark in the privacy of my own game) or push these consoles toward what they are SUPPOSED to be doing: playing games! I don't care one whit about Netflix or similar online content I can get through my computer.

The problem is that since these contracts/dealings are so restrictive, it shoots most of these potential MMO-consoles in the foot before they are "born". Sony's Network has shown more flexibility with such things over XBox Live (and Nintendo, we can all agree, is a non-player). These rules/regs need to loosen up, but I don't see this happening in the immediate future. So, in this regard, beyond your simple tacked on shoot-em-up matches to standard games, I sadly don't see much more innovation to push a greater variety of these types on MMOs onto these consoles connected to the internets.

Eh most of the issue lies in the archaic restrictions laid down 6 years ago.

such as that you can't require a HDD to play a game on the 360. Which would mean that when an MMO launched, that's how it would stay. Only those buying DLC of sorts could actually update it

Personally i'd prefer they not bother. I still think DCUO and FFXIV both suffered because they were made for dual platforms and as a result their respective mechanics and UI's had to account for the console

Good point I forgot about HDDs (which are easy/cheap to expand on the PS3).

I am fine with most of the controls, but I also tend to have a keyboard plugged into my console whenever I can. So again, your point applies to my "Either do it all the way or not at all" way of thinking.

You can do that with a PC if you take the effort to set it up.

A PC Doesn't mean stuck in a chair hunched over like everyone seems to think it does

Laptops, wireless keyboards and mice, VGA and HDMI inputs on almost all new televisions... You don't really have any excuses. I play from a recliner almost 90% of the time.

Of course, that's notwithstanding the fact that:

-you can't mouse move with a controller (and, trust me, mouse moving is lightyears ahead of keyboard-turning.)
-you have far less precision.
-for anything beyond basic soloing and dpsing you can't target exactly what you want quickly enough.
-healing would be a total PITA.
-of those 24 buttons, at least half would be used for functions that you could otherwise do with that infinitely useful cursor.
-and you mentioned it, but not being able to chat in an MMO should be an instant turn-off for anyone considering using a gamepad.

It's not so much the PC Gaming community is particularly elitist. It's just that console gamers tend to demonstrate a lack of understanding and persist with this false view that they're martyrs against the big evil elitists.

But you can run along now and enjoy your subpar control system.
