Fans who are eagerly awaiting news on the status of the Torchlight MMO were offered a brief update during Runic CEO Max Schaefer's interview with Eurogamer; unfortunately for fans, it appears that completion and release of the MMO are quite a ways away.
While Schaefer assures players that it is still planned and that they "have a lot of good ideas for the MMO," he also admits that they currently have other priorities -- namely the release of the forthcoming Torchlight II. He is clear that they "just aren't committing to any kind of schedule yet." Looks like fans will have to bide their time a while longer.

Pay to win what exactly? Hm? Oh, you mean buying stuff from the Auction House with real money *THAT OTHER PLAYERS FOUND AND ARE SELLING TO YOU*? How is that different from any MMO out there where you can buy stuff from the Auction House? Yes, its real money trading, but it is all between players. You can also go to any MMO, buy gold from gold farmers, then use that gold to buy stuff on an auction house to "pay to win". Not to mention this already happens in Diablo 2 from third party websites, Blizzard just greatly eased the process and allows anyone to profit from it.

My point exactly. So instead stopping this they decided to join in. I think you're in for a big surprise if you think this will be better for the game. I expect this to become a gold farmers dream come true at your expense and Blizzards gains. Have fun with that :D

Blizzard "legalized" a black market which is going to change the game for everyone whether they want to participate in real money trading or not, not just a few that used ebay.
I also hope for success for Torchlight 2, mostly because it's just funny to think of how these games will probably be on the same level in terms of quality, but D3 probably cost a hundred times more to develop.

Ye - Torchlight 2 is my Dungeon crawler of chose now. Will destroy my Battlenet account if Diablo 3 launches with the real life money AH. Its that simple. 6 years of WOW and SC account does not matter. I value gaming more than I do changing it to the same junk Im trying to avoid when I play games... real life stuff - including the worst of it... money.
BLizzard obviously lost rack of what gaming means. I thin most gamers are horrified with whats going on atm. Few ppl see themselfs make money out of this... but rest can't belive their own eyes and ears.
What has become of gaming? It defenetly has nothing to do with fun anymore.

@Deadalon Yep. There's a lot of backlash against the big studios right now, and with good reason. I'd rather give my money to the indie guys and feel a sense of investment in the next MMO, rather than waiting on the ivory tower AAA guys to iterate the genre into absolute crap.

@(Unverified) It's not a gold farmer's dream, it's gonna be a gold farmer's nightmare.
it's a small percentage of the player base who uses RMT's and it will be an extremely big percentage who posts for the $AH, so there will be a LOT of undercutting, you'll probably see the sword of awesome for 10 - 25 cents so I doubt farming will be worth it anymore.
but who knows, if prices go that low may be it will increase sales, and people will be able to make something over minimal wage (in places where 40 dollars a week is minimal wage)

I think its safe to say they don't need to worry about Torchlight 2 sales. Even without this Diablo 3 thing occurring, people would buy it. Torchlight was a great game, so there is a good install base there. But with this crap, people who would of put out the $60 for D3, will put it towards other things. Diablo isn't the king of its genre anymore, as several other games and MMOs have moved in to grab a piece of its pie.

Loved the original Torchlight. Most likely I will enjoy the heck out of Torchlight II. An instant sale for me when that comes out. I hope it sells well when it is ready and that the development of the MMO progresses well after that.

I'm really excited for Torchlight II due to the promise of additional "customized cosmetic features," which as some other posters may recognize by now, is sort of my thing when it comes to video games.
I can't for the life of me understand why we are pretty much literally handed a Barbie doll in the form of our character avatar and then *not* expected to care about how it looks. Part of building a character, for me, is about hairstyle, outfit, and personality (and how those three can itnerrelate and influence each other) not just where the stat points go.
I think it's really sad that a sign of progress for D3 is finally being able to select a gender. That's beyond baby steps, it's in the Stone Age.
