Okay, I know I previously said I wasn't that interested in the sylvari, but now I'm really excited just to have the mystery put to rest. One more piece of the puzzle put into place, one step closer to a release date.

Woot!

@Lucidus
Yeah but it looks like a long shot for this game to suck at this point. ArenaNet would almost have to TRY to screw up this awesome looking game. xD

And that ain't happenin'.

looking forward to the Sylvari changes, I can't say their previous look was a draw for me...

The image made me laugh. I tried to figure out for a while what exactly bugged me about the old sylvari design, and I think it's their weird proportions (huge heads and faces, spindly bodies) and how cartoonish they look. If the redesign gives them just a touch more dignity I'll be all over it.

@Irem I actually like that design. It gives them that otherworldly look. Hopefully they won't deviate too much from it.

@Irem

I think they look something that was crossed with a 70's cartoon about amphromophized vegetables gives them the creepiness factor. :(

Also: Not cool to downgrade someone for their subjective opnions folks. You may not agree with Lenn's love for the current Sylvari design, but he didn't present it in an offensive and/or arrogant way. So keep it classy. Just saying.

@Lenn I sort of like the present/old models, too. I'd like to see the proportions edged a little more towards human, I suppose. Less bulbous heads really. Also, I can't quite describe it, but they look really plastic to me compared to the other models in GW2. Too smooth?

If they bulked up the guys a *tiny* bit, that'd be okay, but I am still very concerned that the update is to turn them into the green norn so many GW2Guru posters seem to want.

I definitely want sylvari to maintain a lithe/slimmer/more youthful silhouette and physicality as compared to humans. Bishi is a neglected body type in most western MMORPGs.

Otherworldly I like, but...I dunno, it just fell flat for me. They ended up looking so much different from the concept art, where they had some weight and a little bit of an older, refined look while still seeming young and alien. I could have lived with this design, and I probably could have customized one I liked (a couple of the ones in the back of the screenshot above are neat looking), but I'm hoping they'll look a little wilder and more graceful.

@Utakata Someone downvoted me for that? Unbelievable.

"Love" is going a bit far. I can certainly see why ANet wasn't happy with it. They didn't really fit in with the other races (and that says something with Asura and Charr). But I wasn't disgusted by it at all.

Kristen Perry said at ComicCon that she was aiming for something in between the "elf" look some people wanted and the pure plant-people others were asking for. She described their new appearance as "elegant" if that helps. :)

I agree that it's nice to see body types available for male characters that aren't hulked out, especially in a Western MMO. ANet had some good pretty male options in GW1, and so far they seem to be including that in GW2, thankfully (I just hope they have more than a few male hairstyle options in between "plain" and "completely bizarre").

@Irem Well that's certainly heartening! I can totally see people saying they look too youthful. They remind me a bit of Bratz dolls, to be honest. More elegant or sophisticated are certainly adjectives I can get behind.

I especially like the concept art towards the bottom of the official page on the GW2 site (http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/races/sylvari/) bottom right wallpaper. Although, part of me also says that if they look like that, they're just straight-up elves.

@Irem

I liked the original design as well.

Ugh I really hope they don't make them into the typical elven set.
You know the one with lusty busty females who wear next to nothing, and males whoa re very well made, and have tones of character...but no one notices due to the fact that the ladies are dressed in bits of string. >_<

I like the look of that concept art, but yeah, the first time I saw it I only saw blood elves. It does sound like they'll have a bit more plant to them, and I wouldn't mind seeing something closer to the body type in that concept art with enough unique features to make it clear that they're not just traditional elves with some flowers in their hair.

They did look too young, too, IMO--but that could just be my teeth on edge from the popular misconception that they're all supposed to be running around touching things inappropriately, shouting "WHAT'S THAT?!" and needing babysitters.

Yes they did at first. But you've gotten upgraded to average since. Perhaps I shouldn't of been so quick to jump that. But least it's back up. :)
