Exalted by WW. It's top-powered fantasy with a decidedly anime feel and a very rich setting. Some of the setting elements would either have to be toned down or result in an 18+ game but either could work well.

Exalted has the advantage that it plays at any number of levels on the tabletop from heroic mortal characters making their way through a rich and deadly world through to almost god-like manipulators of fate and leaders of vast armies.

Here it could quite readily expose a CoH style endgame option of 'replay as a new class', successively opening up the higher tiers of being and delaying the inevitably awkward endgame :)

The multiverse! Yes, what a magnificent scenario! Endless possible "expansions", and you could have major factions of Law and Chaos for instance, as well as "The Balance"!

Shadowrun MMO sounds tempting. I just need a good, modern sci-fi fix. The Wild West stuff sounds kind of fun, too.

Echoing the sentiments of others, I'll cast my vote for World of Darkness. It would have to be done right, though: The ability to choose any race (including Promethians, dammit!), a well-done "social combat" aspect, and the ability to team with other races/factions to work towards a common goal. The world could focus on major cities and the outlying rural areas, with the ability to travel across the country via bus, plane, or through the spirit realm.

I'm actually worried about what CCP will do to Vampire, given the sudden turn of events with EVE.

StarDrive setting for Alternity, a lost jewel from the last days of TSR.

D&D 4e would be easy to convert to a proper MMO set in your choice of classic D&D settings or a new one entirely.

Mechwarrior would be lovely too as would Exalted.

Warhammer Fantasy RP, like in the picture. Because what we have now is definitely nothing like the PnP.

Battletech. Stupid legal battles pretty much killed it, though.

Call of Cthulhu! Goodness! Even though I can see it ending up like this: Go into the Black Woods and kill 10 Dark Young. Bring back their tentacles. Or seeing: "LFG: R'lyeh" in a global chat. Or worse, "DPS LFG." None of these things fit, and thinking about it actually makes me hurt a little inside.

Paranoia! would be amazing, too. Alternate title could be "Griefing: the Game."

Rogue Trader. It's such an overlooked aspect of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, yet in my opinion it's the aspect best suited for an open-ended experience. Heck, MMOs are about freedom, and in the 40k universe Rogue Traders are the only humans in the galaxy that legally have any freedom at all.

Both have been said already but gotta go with Shadowrun and Battletech/Mechewarrior. But to do a proper Mechwarrior one would be a undertaking just to select which time frame preformation of the Star League, Star League, post-exodus, pre-Clan, Clan invasion, post-Clan? Then what would the focus of it be? just mechs, or also ground combat, air combat and all the other out of vehicle systems. House alignments, Outer Rim or Mercenary factions? oh if done right it would be a great game but if you toss out parts just for the sake of design decisions it'd be a failure. As much as I'm waiting on ToR I'd drop it in a instant for a fully developed and immersive Mechwarrior universe game.

@PanamaAlex lol yes. It was an incredibly detailed setting. I see it as a chance for a realistic asian setting mmo without being another anime thing.

Mutant Chronicles and Legend of the 5 Rings would both be instant pre-orders with me. MC I could see working with a Rift/Tabula Rasa style dynamic events system whilst L5R would probably lend itself better to a more traditional model.

+1 for Heavy Gear as well, I envisage a World of Tanks type setup which would just be awesome.

Most of the games I think would make good MMOs have already been mentioned.

RIFTS
Battletech
Cyberpunk 2020

Let me also add:

Monsters and Other Childish Things
Wu Xing: The Ninja Crusade

RIFTS is, IMHO, the FPS of the table-top RPG game worlds. I'd love to see that happen, but it would definitely need to allow player generated content in amongst the main game content. Random rifts could open up and dump you in a random player generated mission for example.

And CHILL would be a wonderful MMO, especially with the S.A.V.E. background. You get a randomly generated starting event to lead you into the world, then a S.A.V.E. contact at the end to lead you into the main game content. Again, Player generated stuff would be cool.

I would love to see Earthdawn! It had a great setting and mechanic. Also Rift for it's Magic vs Technology.
