Lineage2 (Bishop) is the best experience ever for a healer (and I think it's the only real healer in every mmorpg)

Speaking of Warhammer online, the utter chaos of keep sieges while being a healer (Shaman in this case) is definitely one of my favorite experiences. Trying to keep the tanks up while they're ramming the door down and taking damage from boiling oil with ranged damage dealers raining attacks down on you. Not to mention the siege equipment high atop the keep's ramparts doing some serious damage if the warband wasn't careful. Formulating various ingenious strategies with other healers to hide in trees, and sneaky witch hunters trying to take us out as we run to a nearby ally who punts them away. Healing in WAR is something utterly unique for me and I think I've never had so much fun looking at health bars for hours on end. Defending the keeps was equally chaotic, not to mention the capture point battles beforehand. Healing prioritization in large scale PvP is amazingly fun due to the critical, and very quick thinking required. It's often hard to choose who is the most important person to get a heal off on, and it often decides the tide of a skirmish. The amazingly complex and chaotic world of large scale PvP healing in WAR is most likely my favorite experience in about a decade of MMO healing.

Has to be my holy priest in the Burning Crusade raiding days. Back then you really had to worry about mana and take well thought out healing breaks to get out of the 5-second rule and start getting some mana back. Alas healing was completely ruined in wrath and only partially salvaged in cata (no 5-second rule).

All the other games have pretty much lacked the necessary tools to efficiently heal, those being mouse over macros, click casting and a good raid grid.

The tools you think make you more efficient made healing dead boring.

@elbastardo66

How does using two actions to do the same that can be done with one action make healing less boring? It's not like they decide what heal to use for me, they just make using the heals more intuitive.

Same, loved raiding as a holy priest back in BC. :-) I've been shadow since Wrath, but I have a lot of good memories of those fights and really enjoyed the challenges as a healer there.

Whitemage in FFXI
it is simple job and you have all the tools you need to be good at it.
in contrast i didnt enjoy healing in wow (reso shaman) i needed many addons just to be decent.

My favorite healer so far of all the mmos I played got to be the zealot in warhammer. Most of the times I dont like playing healers for the way the set up in most games.

Similar to my tank answer: I most enjoyed healing in WotLK, when it was about having fun with your friends and not "playing for real."

Healing was the most fun when I could outheal stupid.

@j1083 Actually, I take that back. The most fun I've had as a healer in an MMORPG is a defender or controller in City of Heroes. Healing is a lot more fun when it's active/proactive and as little about spamming heals into targets ad nauseum as possible. "Healing" by buffing and debuffing so that healing isn't even necessary is way better.

@j1083 Healing and tanking in WoTLK was a joke. That expansion created an unbelievable number of terrible players that felt entitled to the best gear. They tried to fix the problem in Cata, but it was too little too late.

@elbastardo66 We'll have to agree to disagree. In my experience there was absolutely no shortage of terrible players with entitlement issues before WotLK. I'll always remember it fondly as the expansion I got to down the last raid boss with my good friends and Great Aunt Tilly rather than a bunch of "pro" players I don't care about.

I would rather game with my friends and Great Aunt Tilly than "pro" players, any day. I don't game for serious business.

@j1083 I hated healing in WotLK, felt like a mindless drone on my druid, spamming rejuvenate over and over and over...

@Joshua Przygocki In my experience Cataclysm was just as much spamming, just at half the effectiveness, so I'm not sure there's a light at the end of the tunnel, there.

It's why I redacted my "best healing was in WotLK" comment to suggest I prefer CoH. In the end, I just don't really like healing. It tends to be spammy, reactive, and more focused on raid frames than the game itself. Not my cup of tea, in that regard. I'm very interested to experience healing in GW2.

I'll put in another vote for WAR and pvp healing with shaman, it's just...fun.

Dark/Dark Defender in early City of Heroes. It was tons of fun to play a character that filled the "healer" role that was less about healing and more concerned with debuffing and CC. Quite a bit of variety with that class. Really enjoyed it.

I can't decide between a WoW holy priest in cata and a DAoC healer (40 mending, 36 aug)

The WoW holy priest has so many tools, that choosing the right tool for the given situation is almost an art.
The DAoC healer on the other hand has also a great toolset and felt so "pure".

Hands down, Zealot in Warhammer. If that game wasn't so buggy, imbalanced; etc I would still be playing, just for that class.

They did a lot of things wrong but got some things that we're amazing and fun.

as the image in the article hints, it was WAR's Disciple of Khaine (Warrior Priest mirror)

It was simply awesome to keep my group and me at 95-100% endlessly, while at the same time tanking up to 5 enemies.

it was simply retarded, most overpowered healer class I've ever played...

Funny I was talking about this to a friend, and happy to see others are in the same boat as me and nothing i loved more than my archmage in warhammer (shaman mirror). Some of the best battleground matches i ever had.

Also ffxi whitemage, i loved the way to level in this game, although it had waiting times of 2-3 hours for a party back in the day. Nothing felt more rewarding than having the perfect party click together.
