wouldnt it be smarter if they opened the tournament to the public when the game releases so people have a incentive to buy the game and generate hype?

@ZoneOuT

The tournament is basically the unveiling of the game. Not the launch.

The game probably will be free2play. Dota is pretty much nothing in the US compared to SEA, China, and Europe (hence there being no US teams invited). Most people in China and SEA who are playing it did not pay for dota, or did not have the money to pay for it. If Valve wants the game to go over well, they pretty much have to make it free2play, or really cheap (like ~$20 or less).

Forget the Dota type of games.

Give me a new Myth and I will play that in a heartbeat. That was around before Dota ever was and was a far better type of battle arena. Instead of controlling a hero you controlled a small army. When a unit died, he was out of the match forever. A lot of strategy in the Myth game type. Someone needs to make a new version.

One million dollars is a ridiculous amount of money to waste on a video game tournament prize.

I'm pretty sure DotA 2 will be free and if not it will be very cheap. Otherwise it will hardy control the same size of continual players.

@Dota 2 is NOT the successor of Dota.

Icefrog, who is in charge of original Dota for the last 6? years and made this great BALANCED team pvp based game is in charge of Dota 2.

I have been playing dota with friends since 2005 and even if Dota 2 will be F2P all of us, and thousands of other people are ready to pay Icefrog for all the hard work he has done in the last years for free.

@Nolf Bingo. Ice Frog is responsible for the DOTA we all reconize, he works for Valve. DOTA2 is a true successor to DOTA.

You obviously dont play DotA and have very little perspective on what has happened related to it within the last few years. As far as DotA DotA is concerned, IceFrog, who now works for Valve, is DotA. LoL is not the successor. No one who plays DotA cares what you think, because we all agree that DotA goes where IceFrog goes. Guinsoo was a poopy developer for DotA.

LoL is doing their own thing, for better or worse. All I can say is that they're trying to be different, even if, imo, its a worse gaming experience.
