I lost interest after a few days. Probably because I'm not living in a big city.

>>The game is one of these new ARGs, or alternate reality games. I am not really down with that title, and would prefer enhanced reality or slightly altered reality.

@Celtar

You know, this was just a minor thought that hit me while I was reading the article, but I really could have sworn that the A in ARG stood for 'augmented' not 'alternate' which is pretty much in line with the author's suggested alternatives.

Yeah that was 'my' confusion while reading the article. I took it to mean that it was some sort of live action LARP or Killer style game using the smart phones, doesn't sound like that upon re-reading.

Which basically means my comments on the two posts are pointless. :)

Odd cut my reply up and didn't put in my remarks about the cut and paste above. Here is the rest of what I meant to post.

Gotta love how everything needs to have some sort of special name or acronym. So basically its a sort of LARP or game like "Killer" where one of your accessories/gadgets that you need is a phone and the application of course. Or to be clear its a high tech version of "Killer" with a fantasy twist.

Interesting, but in this day and age honestly I'd never want to play such a game due to the geopolitical climate. To easy for some half wit to assume your up to something illegal and get the overly reactive local law enforcement climbing all over your backside. No thanks.

There's nothing confusing about this game, since there's not a lot to it. I wanted it to be engaging, since I live in a big city and work in a downtown area, but it just wasn't all that fun.

I read this and was pretty intrigued.

Searched the appstore and didn't find it.

Went to the game's website, only to find out it's iphone only. Disappointing!

This is actually the very first app I've run into that I wanted that was iphone only, and not on android...

There is no button because you weren't playing the most recent version of the game. Download version 1.1.4 from the app store and the button will appear.

Right now, Shadow Cities is still a developing idea, and the players are helping shape that development. Things in the game change quite frequently; every week there is a new campaign, usually with some minor game mechanic tweak.

One of the best things about the game is the community. The more friends you have, the more places will be open to you. The more places open to you, the more battles with scores of mages you can participate in, the more help you can get when you have a question, and the easier it is to complete your missions and gain experience and mana potions.

I'm glad you're still intrigued by the game, though! Be careful, it can be addiciting...

I actually found the game to be really simple. Basically, you kill spirits, complete missions, build dominators and then harvest them periodically, and destroy the dominators of nearby enemy players. If you don't live in a big city, chances are you won't see anyone around you and will have to use beacons of friends to find actual people. There are team battles, but you need to be connected with lots of other people to see them happen. Finally, you could be totally unlucky and live in a battlegroup (the game's regions) where your faction is totally outnumbered.

This also isn't that new of an idea. There was a very similar game whose name I forget when I bought my first generation Droid at launch. I also got tired of it in a few hours despite the potential and how much the idea of something like it intrigued me. Though I guess it could be that the old idea has a new acronym now...

Game tutorial has recently been revised. Version 1.1.5

Also if you enter the public coms area, by sliding out the side tab on the right side of the screen u will be able 2 enter ur battle group chat room. There you will find many players th@ will personally help 2 guide u in2 the intriguing world of shadowcites.
If you use the forums on the shadowcites website may I reccomend my thread on choosing a guide, as many will wish 2 but few r worthy.
I have taken note of your difficulties and will b posting a thread on your behalf.

Please give shadowcities another chance as I have heard mysterious talk of more game mechanics!
