@Danteeeee

Actually, I'd say that to the Sylvari the entire world is a mystery. They are just coming into being, and as the books have stated there isn't a large number of "generations" yet. They all have a shared knowledge that grows as they learn, but because its still so early for them, I'm actually really curious to see how a Player Sylvari sees the world, and interesting to see how they might react to something that we have already previously experienced even.

@Danteeeee Aye, I am very interested in seeing how the Sylvari look after a year of changes. Also I intend to play a Sylvari so it is a bit exciting knowing that in a few days we will see them again for the first time.

@Danteeeee I've been keeping my emotions and expectations of this game controlled but I have to say I'm very excited about Sylvari. I've been waiting literally over a year for something anything about them.

That initial pic got me so excited, I was hoping Rubi had gotten a preview of the character customization system. It's true that "more than Guild Wars" isn't saying a lot, but the apparent variety between charr fur styles, sylvari skin stlyes (barky, leafy, etc.), and so forth really has me excited.

A game can't have more than 256 colors of dye and not have body sliders, right?

looking forward to quite a few character creation videos, while I seriously doubt I'll play Sylvari or Asura, I'm still curious about them as well.

couple things to correct:

1. For character customization, it was confirmed at the GW2 panel at Comic-Con (2011) that there will be sliders

2. Gamescon will not be the first appearance of the new Sylvari redesign. It will first appear on the main site during Sylvari Week which starts next monday (assuming because they said Sylvari Week will start before gamescon and gamescon starts on the week of the 17th)

And it doesn't seem to be starting today - so I guess you're right that it's next week. The sylvari week, I mean.

OTOH, you're reading too much into this article's single use of the word "appearance". The new thing happening at Gamescom is the sylvari will be PLAYABLE, and that's what's emphasized. I think Rubi is well aware of the reveal coming through the GW2 site.

They've said that character customization will be similar to Aion (i.e. sliders, advanced options)--albeit without the "anything goes" approach to letting people create characters with gigantic heads and arms longer than they are tall. :P

A lot to look forward to! I'm really curious about the sylvari, and I agree on the previous design. The first thing my roommate and I said when we saw them was that they looked like something we'd pick up for my eight-year-old cousin at K-Mart.

@Irem I just hope the alternative isn't that they look like something I'd still buy an 8-year-old cousin, just this time a grimdark, EXTREME, roidrage boy's vesion.

Haha, I have confidence in Kristen Perry. ;) I'm actually hoping they'll be a lot closer to the concept art--I was surprised at how different the original models came out, when the other races were so close to their art designs.

you know what would be ace?

character designer on ipad/tablet/smartphone.

Even better? release the tool just a few weeks before the game does and make it able to load it into the game :P

@Trippin

I thought I read a dev blog talking about some sort of killer outside app that would be incorporated into the game. But my recollection is fuzzy and I might be mixing that up with another game. If you're really interested it might be worth paging through the dev blog.

I just want them get away from the replay notion, some of us don't want muitple toons, we just want to pimp out one. Appearance tab, color dyes, and some ten man raid instances purty please. GW2 looks like it could be the perfect game.... the legendary Wow killer.
