Eve seems to get special treatment on this site. Has any other game gotten strategy tips articles like this?

@Arsinek Although EVE Evolved is our oldest game-specific column at over three years, Massively has dozens of columns each dedicated to its own topic or game. You can find a complete list of Massively columns here: http://massively.joystiq.com/gamecolumns/

It's up to the individual column writer to decide what should go in the column, but most are filled with opinion pieces and guides just like EVE Evolved is.

@Arsinek

I think your beef should be with the writer of your favorite game's column. I know "Behind the Mask" does a lot of strategy/build advice (though I wish Patrick would do more :P) but I think there are relatively few games that really require it (EVE, Champions, maybe Rift).

Great stuff here. I may not agree with it all (most newbies I come into contact with would choke at the thought of a million ISK ship being a "throwaway", for example) but it's still very good advice.

@Brendan Drain this is pretty much my Vexor that i have been flying. (on last day of my like 5th 2week trial over the last 4-5 years, lol). I don't have much eve knowledge, but i am very versed in how to get started heh. I love the vex, its ugly as hell, but a good mission boat.

Lose the blasters, fill with 1 railgun(for pulling), 2 tractors and 2 salvagers, re-arrange the mids, and you can make millions of isk in a cpl hrs. I'm surprised you havent mentioned salvaging as a good way for new pilots to make isk ..it's pretty quick to train, and is at least more fun than mining. Plus you get some fighting experience against NPCs at least to learn the idea of how your new ships behave.
Think i will try the Autocannon Vex someone mentioned, Vex's bonuses are mostly for drones anyway.

However, I do take umbrage at the rig statement: "The extremely low price of medium drone rigs makes them a great option for a throwaway PvP Vexor". I looked for some rigs, and I couldnt find ANY cheap rigs (meaning less than half a mil each, and thats for really bad ones" Any rig i actually wanted was in the millions of ISK. What am I missing? I checked Jita markets and Lonetrek as that's where i hang out.

PS: A cpl articles on how to find decent prices on the market, and how exactly the regions and solar systems affect what you see when you pull up the market would be beneficial as well. I have never understood how to atually know if i am getting ripped off or getting a good deal. If i jumped 3 jumps away to a diff arket, will the prices be different? How cn i know where to shop without spending days flying around checking markets? etc etc

Anyways, great articles ..may actually make me sub up for a few months and finally see this game a bit deeper than i can get in a 2 week free trial. Thing is, like you said I tend to mission and mine for 2 weeks trying to fund my pvp romps, and usually burn out before the 2 weeks is over, and then i just say forget it, and go play something less demanding on my thinkin-parts. :)

Great article with excellent advice. Cruisers are a fantastic, cost effective way to get into pvp, especially when you mitigate the expense of the loss with insurance and as you suggest, named t1 mods. These are great fitting suggestions, but it pays to keep in mind that many pilots owe done of their success to more unconventional fitting combinations. Even for a new player, cross training minmatar and gallente, for example, makes some room for interesting combinations (e.g. an autocannon thorax). I look forward to next column i'm the series.

@lble59

I checked out your regions' market.

(====== They don't even sell noobie frigates let alone Cruisers!!! ... ======)

Share a blaster with you? Believe you will love it.

Gallente? Better stick to Amarr ...

Blasters are severely nerfed at the moment. Indeed this has been amply documented for well over a year, screaming for a fix to hybrid weapons.

But CCP is busy making skirts and boots. Only lately have they promised to "look at" hybrids but not for another 10 months at least!

Sad

I hate to be that guy - but those loadouts would get eaten up in PVP. Drop the insulated stabalizers and increase the tank. If you really want to go for a pure DPS ganker, use Magnetic Field Stablizers instead.

@PapaJackson Insulated Stabilizer Array Is ARE Magnetic Field Stabilizers. It's the meta level 1 named version, which has slightly better stats but actually costs less due to the poor refine rate and abundance in NPC loot drops.
