@Faryon It's the delays. I heard from a lot of people that's what prevented them from enjoying LotRO. It's annoying at first when you're used to characters instantly doing what you tell them to do, but you get used to it quickly. It's a great system for queueing up attacks. But I can see how it would be detrimental to enjoying the game.

This is an interesting read. Love to see how many people have a reason to not play games that I love, reasons that don't bother me at all, while I have my own reasons to not play games that others love.

ONE of the reasons I stopped playing WoW could be considered a little thing for others: I can't make a character outfit to use all the time. If I want to raid, I need to use the super ugly raid gear. Outfits tab please!

@Carolina Outfits for the win! I still cannot believe that there are makers of MMORPGs that can't wrap their heads around the idea that customers might want to customize their character.

@Carolina I hear you. LotRO has spoiled me completely in that regard. It's interesting to see that other games have been following suit. Rift, AoC, Guild Wars all have cosmetic gear options now. It amazes me that the big man on the block, WoW, still hasn't caught on, especially given the fact that there is no other game in existence in which your character would look like something a colourblind clown vomited out. When I played WoW and was in between guilds, I would still wear my guild tabard, just to cover up the hideousness of the armour.

I hope SWTOR won't take too long in adding a feature like that, although I do like the look of the armour, from what I've seen so far.

SWTOR has a match color option so that if you get a piece of armor you can immediately have it match the rest of the armor's colors. Very nice indeed.

@MMOaddict Of course, that's still not remotely approaching the extremely simple system of aesthetic customization offered by any number of MMORPGs, including F2P titles. I think it's embarassing for "AAA" titles to ignore this feature.

Heh you can blame the elitist 'look at my gear!' raid kids, and the hardcore PVPers for there being no appearance tabs in WOW.

Also you can blame the people that, I kid you not, proclaim in chat that 'the art doesn't matter' , 'how will I know how good they are if i can't see their proper gear" and of course 'it'll mess up Gear Score! whaaa!'

>_<

Assuming it turns out to be great, the main reason I won't try The Old Republic is the decision to turn it into an MMO.

For WAR, the stupid decision to split it up into Order and Destruction really turned me off to the game. Sadly, that will probably turn me off to the WH40k MMO as well.

You know, you can turn off the follow camera in LOTRO. It's in the options somewhere. I turned it on once and drove me mad. (the camera adjusting automatically when you go up a hill for example).

WoW - The fact that I would get addicted again, and forget about real life, and the community.
AoC - My friends don't want to play it.
RS - Graphics
WAR - My friends don't want to Sub to it.
SWG - Graphics

I'll play whatever my friends play, but generally that's what it always boils down to.

The big one I forgot to mention, and will generally always rage about.
Mortal Online - Beta, that was the worst experience I had ever had with a community, a client, and the game world.

I will not play a game if I can't invert the camera. For some reason, I just never get used to it if it's not set up a certain way, and even once I'm able to function without tripping all over myself, it always, always annoys me. I know there's been at least one game I've actually quit over it, but I can't remember which one it was...which tells you how little time I must have spent with it before throwing in the towel after finding out the option didn't exist.

Didn't try one yet where I couldn't invert the camera, but I would be quite irked, for sure. Perhaps not enough for me to abandon the game just because of it, but the game would need to have plenty of redeeming qualities to compensate for irritating camera controls.

With LOTRO, it was RP failure.

I wanted to make a thoroughly evil hobbit burglar. I named the character Samhall Gaolster. I was immediately inspired by the Frank Tovey version of the song:

As soon as I learned that to succeed at the game, I would have to buff my Compassion and Empathy and Kindness to Animals and similar traits, cognitive dissonance set in and my character concept seemed unworkable.

That's just how they built the game: you can't play a bad-guy in PvE.

I get what you're saying. I would have loved there to be a playable evil faction. But the "good" story is so deep and so long and so engrossing, I find I don't really miss it.

But as someone who loves the PvMP side of the game -- despite its faults -- I often find myself wishing for a deeper evil game.

WAR ... I loved everything about it at the time ... except its completely unbalanced and broken end game ... and that has not changed. TO THIS DAY I still say that WAR is a game that should be great ... and it is just not. so sad.

WoW ... The life stealer. I still struggle with this because I have sooooo many friends that still play.

Many game have lost me b/c of the graphics ... I just could not look at them for any period of time.

But the ultimate bottom line ... the game better have a great mythos that grabs me and pulls me in and makes me care about the characters and the story ... otherwise its just a grind.

Aion - the sounds, esp. of some of the female characters, it sounded more like pr0n that battle.

WoW - the art style. Friend kept trying to get me to play it, but I just couldn't look at that crap.

Darkfall, for the graphics and animations.

I liked the concept of the game, really enjoyed the trial (and I'm not a PVPer, I was basing this on the sandboxyness and the thrill of paranoia everytime a random person was in sight out in the wilds)...

But the way the game actually appeared just turned me off.

Keeping an eye out for Darkfall II though - I'll be interested to see what emerges.

EVE's lack of fast travel. When I realized that slogging 28 jumps to my destination was an intentional design decision, that changing it would destroy the player-run economy, I quit.
