Star Wars: The Old Republic set the new bar for EA's pre-order sales according the to the notes for the Q1 Fiscal Earnings Release. The previous bar was set by Battlefield 3, but according to President Frank Gibeau during the investor's conference call today, SWTOR far exceed BF3's pre-order sales. In fact, according to Gibeau the sales exceeded the company's expected sales curve, therefore breaking records no one at the game developing company could have expected.
As for the release date that everyone seems to be waiting for, CEO John Riccitiello explained during the call that although they have set a wide margin for the release date, they are confident in the projected release of holiday 2011. It is not uncommon according to Riccitiello for an MMO to withhold an exact release date until four to six weeks prior to launch. That said, EA CFO Eric Brown did say, "In September, we will be in a position to call the ball and give you a hard ship date" following the major beta testing push.
[Update: Originally, we quoted Frank Gibeau with the "hard ship date" quote, but the official transcript credits Eric Brown with the statement.]

Now comes the time for fan boys/girls to get all hyper and "claim" the release date will be near the end of Oct to early Nov. because John didn't watch what he was saying. *sighs*

Hehe. I'm sorry but it most likely WILL BE in OCT/NOV if not sooner. I don't know what you're trying to say, but what? Like early Dec?? Is that what you mean??
And don't even tell me you're a 2012er still!!! Ick!
Also Larry, he did also mention that the beta currently running is going to be larger and larger throughout the rest of the summer. So I'm hoping that more and more fans who signed up for testing will be allowed in even before the Sept. Beta Weekends start.
But yes, Sept Beta Weekends mean that it's done and only needs some large scale bug tests and stress testing, or else they wouldn't be having a large scale Beta event like Sept. So if all goes relatively well in Sept than we MOST DEFINITELY (Unshra! :P) will be seeing a RD in late Oct to Nov. My money would be on late Oct to just KILL Blizzcon (teehee!) or most likely Nov.1 with the Early Access starting about 1 week before that. After that the season is pretty packed with releases in mid-Nov on.

Yeah, this is what I've always thought; October/November, with a bit more percentages given toward end of October. Second choice would be around first half of November...before Thanksgiving.

@Nyghtsaber I never said that I didn't think it wasn't going to be in Oct/Nov, I started believe that a very long time ago (which was also around the time John did a release I believe).
What I am referring to (in 'jest") is how John can never seem to keep his mouth shut. So your words are rather wasted "preaching to the choir" if you will.

There are several beta videos that have leaked and they're quite good. In all honesty in really looks and plays like WoW with a Star Wars skin, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. The voice acting is top notch and it really makes you care about the quests making them more important and personal.
I did pre-orderd the CE and I'm greatly looking forward to it!

I've spoken to some people who have played it and say that while it has some WoW similarities (which any MMO in the future probably will) it actually does FEEL different and plays a lot different.
But yeah I'm with you. Even if it is a complete WoW-clone in SW, then I'll be very happy as long as it's polished (which it will be) and also continues to improve and evolve overtime.

Calling it a re-skinned WoW wouldn't be giving them nearly enough credit. I recognize the similarities, but every time someone brings that up, it's a red herring that distracts from any real discussion, which is a shame because there are valid critiques that can be made if one is inclined to do so.

@(Unverified) Based on the short amount of time I got to play it at Comic Con, I think Bioware has done a pretty good job and at least at launch it will be a very good game. We'll have to wait and see if it will continue to hold interest once everyone reaches endgame content.

Well, you got a long way to fall. And it's gonna be a bumpy ride to the bottom. Of course, the execs won't care. This has already made the money back

Especially from that overpriced golden turd they call the $150 Collector's Edition. Kind of reminds me of the "Lifetime Member/Founder" thing from Hellgate London... they sold out of CEs of Hellgate London, THEN made the lifetime subscriber deal... and it still went completely to hell, pun intended!
