@Malagarr I was thinking the exact same thing. Burning Crusade just seemed full of poop quests.

Global chat is generally the grossest thing in an MMO.

It seems like almost ever person responding has missed the entire point of this post.

Gross and annoying are two completely different things.

For example:
It doesn't gross me out that everyone responding has failed to understand this topic (with a few exceptions).

What disgusts me the most in an MMO is players who gank grey-con players and then try to rationalize it as "motivating them to become stronger".

A coward is disgusting enough, but a lying coward takes it to another level.

What grosses me out is when a game looks like it was made in 1893 and still wants to charge a monthly subscription. Seriously, it's time to either update your graphics or change up your payment model a bit.

The bears in the post-cataclysm Hillsbrad with the spider egg's laid on them... Nasty stuff.

OMFG YES!!! The only quest to ever literally make me cringe as I was doing it. The head garden one in Hillsbrad came close, but that was also sort of funny in a messed up way. I guess I have a warped sense of humor...

" Maybe you shouldn't care so much about words or the silly restrictions society has arbitrarily put on verbiage and vocabulary... "

At least until your child walks up to you want says, "Daddy what does F*** mean?"

I guess trying to find responsible people on a blog website is unheard of.

Responsible is teaching your child about the real world and how to handle oneself in it, not sheltering them to the point of naivety and ignorance.

But hey, if you want to treat your child like an idiot, that's your prerogative I guess.

I rather protect my child from idiots that feel they can treat their children like adults, because children are not capable of being adults; They don't have the mental capacity for it. They need structure and control before freedom. You can call me naive and ignorant, but at least my child will grow up with morals and respect while yours will be washing my car.

So don't let them play games with open chats.
Or if they do, close their chat windows.
And play with them so you can explain the strange stuff to them straight away or react if someone direct convos them.

Dude, this is is not rocket science. If you're worried for your kids, do something about it, don't be a lazy douche and blame the game or the other people playing the games.

Lol. I hope our kids go to the same college. It would be fun to watch yours crash and burn under the pressure while mine sails through with all the knowledge and decision making faculties necessary for being an adult.

But hey, at least your kid won't say any bad words.

It's a word, words are representative tokens that describe certain concepts. You can have a mature conversation with your kid (presumably they are old enough to have that conversation if you are allowing them to play MMOs unsupervised where cursing would occur) or you can cover their ears and say 'that's a bad word, don't ask!'. From experience, the kid who you try to hide it from is going to find out on their own anyway, and you'd probably want them finding out from you. I think you underestimate children too much, and put too much stock into words that we assign meaning to. The word 'fuck' has no magical powers beyond what society and the people using it attribute to it.

I also think you are underestimating how early children are exposed to this language as well. I heard a pretty wide variety of 'bad words' by the time I was 12 or 13, and it didn't scar me for life. I didn't stand there gaping in shock at the person who used the words for the rest of the day, I didn't even particularly care. I made a note of it, and later when it was explained to me filed it away within the appropriate social context for the word. I didn't care because nobody made it out to be a big deal to me prior to that, except maybe 'don't use this word in this situation'. So instead of hearing "don't use the d-word, it's BAD" I was told something along the lines of "you shouldn't use damn in front of your teachers, it's pretty rude". Tell me which one was more useful advice.

Profane language is probably the least worrisome of the things your kid is going to find on an unsupervised trip to the internet, unless you have spent so much effort into trying to shield them from the world that you do indeed cause damage to your own kid when they experience it, as you'd be highlighting the importance of the words in doing so. In which case, don't let them use the internet, as within about an hour, they'll probably find all of that.

Also, I just have to say...Duke Nukem avatar complaining about cursing? I did get a bit of a laugh out of that.

Spiders in LotRO.

Man when you have to go into a spider next to kill the queen, I lose my **** every time. First of all, spiders look like creatures from and second LotRO tries to make them even scarier. You can hear them scurry around and they always live in the darkest part of the forest or w/e and just uuuuuuuuuuugh MAKE IT STOP
