Nothing to do with MMOs is expensive for me, the cost of the game, subscription, cash shops... it's all pretty small fry compared to the cost of everything else in life.

I think it's good value for the amount of entertainment I get from them.

I agree to a point; I think the most important factor is "is this providing enough value for money for me?". Exactly how you define "enough" and "value" is entirely dependent on you and your circumstances.

So! If you are an absolute WoW fan who loves collecting mounts and pets, $25 for the legendary sparkle pony is pretty reasonable, If you're not, your responses might range from "not worth it" to "you want me to pay WHAT?!"

Basically, if I have the extra money to spend, I'll spend. As far as SWTOR is concerned, as much as I'd love to, I don't have the money to pay 60 bucks on the chat client at the moment. Maybe I will have it later on down the line, but right now, I don't see that happening.

I was seriously expecting something like 39.99. Those prices blew my head up!

@terroni Before this game, I'd never played a game from EA. Well, I did play NFS: World, but that's the only one.

If the subs are higher than normal, I most definitely won't be playing SWTOR. :/

You were expecting $40 from EA? HA!, Sorry, but that's naive. All their games lately have seemed to be a money grab and this one will be no different.

And I don't know where you come off saying it's just a "chat client". It's an actual game. Even if you play it entirely solo without the multiplayer aspects, you're still getting your value if Bioware lives up to saying that it's equivalent to 4 independent squeals to KoTOR.

Hell, as long as the quality for the Gentle Giant statuette is better than just some tiny plastic thing, than that CE that I'm putting money down on is so worth it. Besides, that's just less than a handful of overtime hours that I can easily just skip a few theater releases for.

@(Unverified) I meant to put game client, not chat client. I guess that wasn't very obvious.

Anyways, like I said earlier, I haven't dealt with EA before, so I don't know much about how they price games. I'm just learning that EA owned Bioware. I've just never heard of an MMO charging 60 bucks for the standard edition game client.

I'm not paying that much, mainly because I can't. I wish I could, but I can't.

I demand to see where they said it was " equivalent to 4 independent squeals to KoTOR. ". I've not seen any footage of any squealing at all!

yea, I was expecting $50, which is standard for PC games if you're not Activision and you're selling Call of Duty. The extra $10 bucks was dissapointing, but not bad enough to stop me. However, I was only charged $5 for the pre-order on Origin, so I guess you can get your early access code now if you wanted... not that it matters right now. :\

@Vazzaroth I wonder if we can pay in increments. If I have enough time, I may do something like pay 15 bucks every month and pay off whatever is left when the game is ready to launch.

I'd really love to play this game. I'm too hyped to give up now! lol.

I would have paid $40. $50 would have been pushing it. $60 for my budget would be irresponsible, especially since we don't know the monthly fee.

It's disappointing because I was so looking forward to this.

Regardless of income or level of fanaticism it is a lot of money to pay for something whose quality is an unknown.

I realize the company is pouring their heart into this game but for all we know they will be bogging down the gameplay with voice-acting to the point of aggravation.

For every fan who relishes novella-length quest text there are a thousand others who click past to see how many Womp Rats they have to go kill.

How many games have made gigantic promises that either fell flat or just were not kept?

I will definitely be playing SWTOR when it releases to see how the game turned out. In fact, I'm excited about playing in that world.

But I'll be keeping my senses as well. If it's not fun I won't be subscribing.

@Pingles I can say, having played the game, that your fears are unfounded. The conversation system provides the narrative backdrop for questing, not the details of the quest proper. I've taken three classes to their early twenties and have yet to encounter a kill "X" of whatever type quest. There are gathering quests that are pretty traditional but the narrative presentation gives you such an amazing impetus that you don't even notice.
There are "bonus" objectives that might give you a number to aim for as far as killing things but those bonus objectives are built in stages that lead to an tougher boss mob and nice little award at the end.
The upshot is, even during the bonus objectives, the combat is so fun and kinetic that you're already looking for an excuse to unleash on everything in sight, but in this case you're getting paid for it.

Well, now I'm torn. While I can't imagine that you actually HAVE played it I am also thrilled by what you wrote and WANT to believe. :)

I'll believe it when I see it. No offense, but the hype train is so huge on this and so many people are practically foaming at the mouth, I'm not believing a word anyone says.

Nothing I've seen in the past 6 months has led me to believe the experience will even be remotely that satisfying or exciting. Granted, I'm not big on story, or BioWare games, or the traditional MMO framework, so I'm going to be harder to please than most.

If I'm paying out the ass for retail and paying out the ass for a monthly sub, a game better give me something new. I don't think SWTOR is going to deliver that revolution, at least not compared to some other games on the horizon.

My money is definitely staying in my wallet until I get a free trial.

All I have to say is sign up for testing now and hopefully you'll get into the Beta Testing Weekends in Sept. and then I pretty much assure you that 95% of the people will find it's VERY much worth $60 and a $15/mo fee.

Stephen Reid tweeted that the sub cost has been announced yet but that it won't be "anomalous". So that means it will (~99% sure) most likely be $15/mo.

anomalous: Deviating from what is standard, normal, or expected.

Also PvP will blow freakin' minds! Really, it will.
