The videos look good, but the Q&A last night made me sad. Love the look of the game, but the more the developers talk, the more this seems like a standard MMO from 6-8 years ago with lightsabers.

Class choices aren't important and being able to change roles on the fly makes grouping much easier. Rift system was incredibly good in this respect. Why does Bioware think that respec'ing should have a dilbilitating cost associated with it? It's an old school design paradigm that wasn't productive back in the day either.

To me, it sounded like they want the game to be like WoW when WoW required players to have a raiding main and seperate alts for farming, pvp and alternate group roles when the main had abilities in it's class makeup to fill multiple roles.

Still saddened that the guild system is going to be limited at launch too. Perks and guild quests help bring guilds together.

I appriciate the sotry and voiceovers, but if that's the only progression for the genre, I'd be very concerned.

Couldn't disagree more with everything you said.

Basically, you could sum up your complaints as: time + effort = bad. And, basically, time and effort was the bread and butter of Vanilla/TBC WoW and all the games before it.

At this point, considering every game in the genre ISN'T like old school WoW, I'd love one that is old school.

Could you expand on that? What was from vanilla WoW that you want in another MMO? I haven't heard much on how difficult SWTOR will or will not be.

@eyeball2452 You basically have mountain climbers and folks that want a helicopter ride to the top. They both are fapping over the same mountain though, so I dunno. This is imo the biggest challenge of anyone making an MMO today. Why certain camps believe there is a right or wrong between the two methods is nothing more than a limitation of the genres fans itself. Both teams pay the money that the companies are there to earn or collect in the first place.

@eyeball2452

Matrix Online "class" system was far better than Rift. You could completely switch archetypes( or mix and match as you saw fit) by hitting a hardline.

@eyeball2452. Shame that despite your eloquent and well thought out opinion, because it is different from the masses it gets down voted. Guess its true some people truly are threatened by opposition and will try to suppress any negativity about the game.

Amazing video.

Also: so the Sith are officially all British (well, home counties British, but still British)!? If so, there's no going back...I'm playing Empire and only Empire.

@Dril

Yes, they've said that they wanted that same Imperial accent that was found in the original films, ie British.

Though it should also be noted that the male Jedi Knight is modeled on Alex Guinness, so should resonate a similar tone and I think one of the other female Jedi voice actors is British too. :)

Still having a hard time getting into the art style Bioware has chosen and animations still look soooo stiff. Ah well that can all be overlooked if gameplay is there. Not making a move on this game till they lift NDA on beta testers. EA you got me once with Warhammer and I have learned my lesson.

The animations were bugging me too in that video. Bad animations tend to put me off, but hopefully they can iron out the wrinkles. Mass Effect's animations aren't the BEST but they're at least passable.

@Eamil I'm of the opinion that they focused on cinematic animation rather than 3D world animation. They claim that adding swimming animations would require too much effort, and then go to great lengths to animate the cutscenes?

It's just a shame to me that all of that effort went into something I can see on television or a movie screen. Instead of training their writers to be 'game designers', they should have taught their animators to animate FOR 3D instead of IN 3D.

Can't agree more. I can't deal with a few bugs and I don't expect polish at release, but please don't be broken.
