I'm amazed at how much new content this game gets for the size of its player base.

@Averdrian

It's actually got a decent sized player base and always has. I've played off and on for 6 years and I've never had trouble rustling up a group no matter what level range. Hell, since Incarnate went live there's been more folks around than ever before. The lower levels are slightly more deserted than before (not surprising now that endgame is more than "roll an alt" now), but all the signs of a healthy population are there.

It just goes to show how lazy most of the big boys have gotten.

Excellent but when does the game go free-to-play? I want to subscribe a month before and retain all of the 'VIP' benefits! :D

Once you stop paying the monthly subscription you drop down from VIP to 'premium'. Just so you know.

It's player base is still pretty darn big. I feel like there are far more players just on Virtue, then there ever are in STO where the entire playerbase plays on the single server.

So much content, buried under lackluster instancing that is repeated ad nauseum and boring environments.

I play on Virtue as well and yes, if you play on that server, it seems like CoH has a sub base that rivals some of the really big MMOs. But I know Virtue is not the best indicator of the game population. Still, CoH does seem to have a very high retention rate of their veteran players which is a very good thing.

I play on a bunch of different servers because no one server can contain my out of control alts-heimers, and while Virtue and Justice are absolutely jam-packed, the other servers have plenty of folks too. Its population certainly doesn't rival WoW by any means, but it's definitely thriving and the community is only out-awesomed by LotRO.

And Freedom. That server competes with Virtue as the most populous server. Yeah, you are probably right about the population. It's been seven years and I think CoH has held fairly steady the entire time which says a lot about the quality of the game.

And how the heck do you remove the (unverified) tag???? I even did the whole, log out, log in the main joystiq site business and still no go...arrgh...

There's been something wrong with Massively's verification system for months now. :/ The only way to get rid of it so far is to make a new account. *sigh*

City of Heroes has long been among my top 3 MMOs. I haven't been able to play it much, but the F2P change will definitely change that. Glad to see it's still going strong.

Kinetics/Sonic Defenders are still, to this day, my favorite "support class" in any MMO :)

@Ehra

I love the special effects and playstyle for Sonic powers but oh god, the SOUNDS!!! DX *twitchtwitchtwitch*

But yes, Kin Defenders are made of total win. I'm partial to Kin/Nrg and Kin/Lightning, myself.

Screenshots of the costume creator look really good, and just when I thought Desdemona couldn't get sexier, she gets sexier.

Hmm...I played the trial 1 month ago and don't remember the character customization to be so slick and sexy.

It wasn't that shiny. Still isn't. The new shiny character creator is part of Issue 21 and CoH:Freedom.

CoH was my first MMO and it's still one of my favorites, but I left it for WoW many years past. I finally came back after the recent Steam sale (I hadn't yet bought Going Rogue) and I think I'm gonna stay. As much as it's improved already since I last played and with all this awesome coming down the pike, I see bright pastures ahead for this game so long as they don't screw it up.

Even as dated and flawed as it still is in some ways, with only the fail that is CO and DCUO for competition (and Marvel Online likely headed straight into Fail with Roper at the helm) it's gonna stay the only real superhero MMO player in town for a good long time. Especially if they keep this up.

Heh, you are just like me. I played CoH, left it for WoW then returned recently. I have no intention of going back to WoW. I am CoH immensely.

Strike one for Marvel was that you couldn't create your own superhero which is a huge mistake. And strike two to a billion is them hiring Roper.
