"The expansion heads deep into the territory mentioned in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Two Towers."

Well, not THAT deep. We still won't be in Rohan proper.

Anyway, we should arrive in Mordor some time in 2080, at this pace.

Even if I get invited to the beta I won't be playing it. I've had my fill of doing stuff during beta and then getting bored when it launches because I've already seen and done the new stuff.

Still, it's good news that things are moving forward like this!

Totally agreed. I made that mistake with Cataclysm. It totally ruined it and I really, really don't want that to happen with LotRO. I think I'll still beta test smaller patches (like I'm doing with CoH right now), but never a major expansion like RoI.

Pre ordered the Isengard expansion today and am so far pleased with my purchase. Hopefully Turbine makes this expansion as nice as planned and keeps going till we get to Mordor.

I've pre-ordered, but i'm a bit less-enthused about this expansion than others. There's no new mechanic here, just new areas/more levels. They need to add some sort of new mechanic or class here in order to make me very interested, like skirmishes/legendary items, etc.

@Gerome42

In my opinion every expansion does not need to have a new class or a new mechanic. Unlike most games, Turbine is limited to what they can make in terms of classes. They have stretched the lore a bit on some stuff but they don't want to go beyond a certain point, then it will no longer feel like the Lord of the Rings.

The new mechanic that they will be adding will come at a later time though, probably sometime next year. Turbine wants to add mount combat into the game.

But this expansion, in my opinion, looks very nice. I am looking forward to the new areas. I will not be playing in the Beta since it will spoil that "new" and "epic" feeling that I get when entering a new area that I have never seen before, which is how I felt when I first walked into Rivendell and my journey through Moria.

Exactly two months. Shortest beta for this game so far. Hope that isn't a statement about the amount of content coming.

Yeah I agree with some of you, this expension feels a bit insipid at first sight. A new classe could put in some fresh air... It's not like this game have real pvp which forces class balance.

But I'm definetly ok with pace of the progression, since, well, once we reach mordor / gondor, it will be the end of it. Turbine is limited by the storyline.

Yet still no mention of character model improvements..bleh. This is the one major reason why I can't stand playing the game. The NPC's look better than the toons you can make and that's just a piss poor decision that was made so long ago..get with it Turbine!

@syklonis The NPCs look a lot worse than the player characters. They have no expressions. They don't blink. Their faces are just wrap-arounds. They look like blow-up dolls.

Are you playing the same game as the rest of the world...Yeah tell me how this toon I quickly made looks better than the NPC she's standing next too?!? I stick with my statement!

@syklonis

Look again. The NPC has a painted-on texture with no facial structure or points of articulation in her face.. Those shadows on her face never change. It does not look better except in stills -- in motion, the player character looks better.

Further, this isn't an issue with models, but an issue with the engine as a whole: Shadows on the player face are never going to be as good as you might hope, given the limitations of the engine.

Of course, it would also help if you had the high-res texture pack and your settings at reasonable levels: http://jameswestbury.com/personal/The%20Lord%20of%20the%20Rings%20Online/ScreenShot00084.jpg

Yeah.The major failing in LOTRo.I wish they'd do something about this.It's just going to keep getting worse and worse.
Still, Star Wars isn't that much better.

@syklonis What Babelfish said. Instead of a picture, Fraps it, and see how your character will turn her head, blink her eyes, raise her eyebrows, while the NPC just remains there like a cardboard cut-out. Not blinking, not turning her head, not raising her eyebrows. Nothing.

Well a new class or some higher hi-res textures/models would be nice, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't super excited for the content that we are getting. Also, definitely gettin that legendary edition!!

I wish they fixed the GCD engine, every time you hit an ability you have to wait forever for it to happen. God forbid your tanking and you see something you might need a CD for, by the time the game engine registers you hit the ability it's too late. If Turbine gave the player abilities the same reaction time as WoW or Rift then the game might be playable in every aspect of the game instead of being barely tolerable while questing.

the funny thing is, this happens a lot more with melee class than with ranged class. My runekeeper chains his abilities very smoothly, while my champion... Well, is sluggish.

I don't get why people get so excited over betas. Yay, I get to spend my time playing an unfinished product! Invite or no, I'm waiting until it launches on live to delve in.

@Nerves

It's no different from the whole early adopter phenomenon. People like to be the first to try something so they can say, "I got it before it was popular" (yes, people were in fact saying that crap long before hipsters came along).

But as I said elsethread, for me the bragging rights really aren't worth spoiling it for myself. So I'm more than happy to wait until September and focus on leveling my baby Cap and/or Minstrel. To each their own.
