Vehicles are cool. Not that having a trusty steed isn't cool in any game, but Star Wars: The Old Republic is a game emulating films in which every single vehicle was a character unto itself. In the most recent panel for the game at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, it's been made clear that the designers aren't limiting vehicles to simply spaceships for players and for ambient encounters. Landspeeders and speeder bikes will be available for players, with several styles shown off to the attendees.
As always, iconic imagery is at the top of the priority list for development, up to and including the opening text crawl following character creation. A firm release date has still not been announced, but the team has once again reiterated that the game will be out for this year's holiday season. Frustratingly vague? Perhaps, but at least there's plenty of tasty information to chew on despite the insistent lack of clarity elsewhere.

As long as there are no pod racers running about Mos Eisley i'll be happy.

I don't know- I think adding POD racing functions to the game would be cool. Have special places for people to form teams and compete would be fun! Just another layer of options :D
PVP, PVE & POD racing! FTW

@GeneralStobo I can see them adding swoop bike racing as it was part of the Old Republic era and a mini game in the Knights of Old Republic series. So there is a chance that Tatoonie would get a special version as pod racing. Personally I would like to see the feature added in the future along with Pazaak.
Though one thing I don't want to see (and maybe this is what you meant) is for those huge pod racers to actually be mounts outside of racing, as it would be WoW dragon mounts all over again only worse in my opinion.

@Unshra Yea, that's what i'm talking about. I wouldn't mind a racing game in there.

So, is part of "iconic imagery" forcing players to wear whatever gear is most statistically advantageous, regardless of how bad it looks and how many clones that results in, or is SWTOR at least able to step into 2011 enough to offer players a wardrobe/outfitting system/appearance tab?
Yes, that is my first and most relevant question before deciding to maybe possibly be interested in an MMORPG.
Yes, I am insane. :)

I certainly agree that an appearance tab would be great, but to play devil's (sith's?) advocate, how many jedi really dress that differently from one another? It's really been brown robes, tan tunics for most of the movies. Luke did the all black number in RoTJ, but other than than, Jedi and Sith aren't known for fashion.
That's half of the classes right there. Of the other half, two others: Agents and Troopers are members of military organizations which make the idea of completely unique costumes a bit weird. So we're left with only two classes where there 'should' be a large diversity of appearance.

Well, it finally took four months for RIFT to finally put in a wardrobe appearance tag because it didn't have one at launch.
Lotro didn't have one at launch.
AoC didn't have one at launch.
Why you're all over SWTOR about it and the game hasn't even launched yet.. I'll never know.

@j1083 I don't think you're insane. Not in the very least.
I'm flabbergasted after the freedom and creativity City of Heroes' character creator introduced into the genre (what, 6+ years ago?) we *still* have games, not to mention AAA, mega-publisher titles, that don't incorporate a more flexible, player-empowered appearance system.
And unfortunately, from what I understand SWTOR will be amongst them. It will not include a wardrobe/appearance tab. So yes, you will be faced with the decision of either donning the most statistically advantageous clownsuit available, or sucking wind in the name of fashion.

You are correct... but to play siths advocate a lil more, making it so that I can continue to wear a particular style available to me during my course of play, that I prefer over something attained later in the game, should be perfectly fine. In seriousness, when in the movies did you see the Jedi/Sith or military's gear change as drastically as it does while leveling up in this game? Of all the things in this game, this is the only one i find fault with. But to be honest, as long as I don't see the
clown effect that is well known in WoW, I won't be much bothered. But it is an option I never could understand them dismissing..considering the guy who developed the wardrobe tab in SWG is also on this title...

@real65rcncom Why 14+ threads of 1,000+ posts over this (including one poll that showed votes of 490 for to 19 against) isn't enough to convince a developer they should maybe possibly consider allowing players to customize their characters is in an *RPG*, I'll never know.
I'll be down on any developer that thinks they can still go to market without this feature. It's not acceptable to me.

"Q: Plans for vanity armor that overwrites the equiped one? JO: We debated that, but we're not doing that. If you want to look great you'll have to make scarifies in combat strength."
Booo-ioware. BTW, he probably said sacrifices. Unless he really did mean to scarify some combat strength. Because you're in a clown suit. Which is scary? IDK.

I tried that once in an mmo... I highly recommend against it in a gear stat dominated game like this will be.

@JanChel You will not be able to choose the exact outfit you wear if you want to be good in combat no. However, you will not be in a "clown suit". There will be an option to match the color/appearance of your gear to the rest of it.

I am not quite convinced that the "Appearance Tab" is totally out, regardless of quoted comments here.
1) It was said in the Tatooine play video of E3 2011, that you can give armor to your companion. If you did not like the look of the armor, you could choose to turn it off. I think an example of the big-bruiser guy was given; if you liked his "naked appearance" with a loincloth and gave him armor with pants, you could keep the look of his loincloth.
Why not have the same option for characters? Further:
2) The CE special edition gives you a Special vendor. It has been said most of the items he sells gives no in-game stat benefit. Basically, ALL vanity. What does that mean? I can't see him selling only ONE kind of item or reskin (like, making your mount look different and that is it or a different mouse-droid). There is suggestion that the special vendor does indeed sell items that look different from other pieces (although it points out that these pieces can be obtained in-game by those without the shop; possibly the coloring is different or it has one or two less details?)
Now, it is possible that such a vendor could be rendered null/void by a certain level, but if such a vendor is in-game, giving us vanity items, why would that be? Especially, they plan to add more items to this vendor as the game continues...when we have leveled. While it is possible there still could be a "swap combat item for social" item mentality, I think, linked with my point #1, we will see at least some sort of appearance tab.

Funnily enough, in the space of a few hours, Bioware forums have managed to explode into a multi-thousand protest post about the giant preorder screwup, closed and moved three times already for bursting the 1k marks.
We're talking around 350'ish pages per thread.
http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=387212 for the third and (at this time) most current.

The "Episode 1 Pod Racer" game was actually pretty decent - so it could work. But the prequel trilogy is not as good :(
