XLGames making Civilization MMO

Get ready, Civilization fans, as your favorite franchise is heading to MMO-land (and no, we're not talking about the Civ World Facebook game). A couple of months ago we told you about XLGames' partnership with Take-Two Interactive, as well as the fact that XL would be making an existing Take-Two property into an MMORPG.

This morning, various Asian gaming websites confirmed that said property is the venerable Civilization series that began way back in 1991. Details on the new game are sparse, but Google Translate versions of the news articles indicate that XL has begun "large-scale recruitment of MMORPG developers [...] including server [programmers], client programmers, artists, planners, project managers, story designers, [and] mission designers."

Prior to its involvement with the Civilization franchise, XLGames was known exclusively for ArcheAge, a fantasy sandbox MMO that is currently undergoing closed beta testing in Korea.

I've tried a whole mess of these new MMO/RTS type game attempts, haven't found a 1 yet that worked. These genres don't mesh. At least I haven't found 1 yet that did. Maybe these people will do it, best of luck to them! I frankly find it more interesting following the development of games then playing them these days. There just isn't anything out there currently that really excites. ArcheAge and GW2 pretty much only things looking forward to...

XLgames is the company making Archeage...get to wonder how many resources they got, either way love the civilization serie, hope they can create a good MMO iteration of it...:)

Being a big fan of Civ since its inception, I am looking foward to how this turns out

No western themed MMO like the original story hinted at damn too bad.
Well if you play this you might get to meet http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2011/language-from-games-0712.html in the game some day hehe. Skynet is coming sooner than you think =P

One of the things I like about Civilization is that it's a turn-based game, not an RTS.

One of the other things I like is that I can play a game with no wars if I want. I'm more a builder than a fighter most days.

I have my doubts that the aspects I like are going to make the cut.
