@(Unverified) I'll probably wait for a sale that drops it at or below the 49.99 mark, mister Matter of Fact. I already play WoW, so the wait wouldn't really bother me.

Bobby Kotick's apparently possessed EA's head or something.

Basically I'm betting since they have to have at least ~2 million subscribers to make up for the money they've spent on this project, they're putting up ridiculous prices (even for the digital versions) as sort of a safety net of income. Especially since getting the game nets you a free month of subscription, which many players take advantage of and then will quit out of.

'cause basically that's a month of no money for them with this game, and if people drop out after the free month, there goes any future money from subscription fees. 60 bucks for even the standard edition ensures the equivalent of about 4 or so months of subscription fees, so that they can at least get a good foothold money-wise when the initial "free month" players drop out.

Also this is the most hyped MMORPG since WoW. And it appeals to the massively huge Star Wars fan base as well as the fans of KotOR and Bioware games in general. They're obviously going to get plenty of money out of this and they obviously need to get plenty of money out of it to make up for production costs, so that's most likely why they're milking the potential players early.

Now if they were to announce that their monthly fees were higher than average (even just 16 a month), that'd be the final straw for me. I'm still hoping to buy the Digital Deluxe in a month or so though.

I think the funnier part is where you have to pay $60, even though this game isn't coming to PS3 or X-Box 360, so there's absolutely no licensing fees needed. Still, people will buy it, and $60 will become the new norm. Sigh.

Anyone not expecting outragous prices (and an impending future cash shop) with this thing have been fooling themselves. I'm not even remotely surprised what with EA being one of the bandwagon members trying to arbitrarily increase the price point on PC titles. Especially egregious as they're trying this on an MMO client. Sorry, going to continue to pass on your Sci-Fi WoW clone and then watch you flail around with insane marketing schemes and crap like item malls and such while you try desperately to recoup the stupid amount of money you put into developing this.

Looking at your profile, you seem to just go onto every game post and spew hatred on the game.

Unplug. Go outside. And find something worth being happy about.

Save yourself some stress and wait until something actually happens before you rage. There hasn't been any mention of cash shops.

Sorry if it's a stupid question, but how does one cancel the digital pre-order? Just curious!

Despite what I should believe, I'm a little surprised they are going with this model. So many games have proven the success of the free-to-play model that converts people into pay-to-play. IMO, Turbine is getting it right with DDO (in particular) and LotRO.

Oh well. I like Starwars, but not at a $60USD entry fee with what is clearly going to be monthly "dues".

@jw2online

Honestly i think they intended on going that route, but about 1-2 years ago someone at EA let it slip and people RAGED. The official site crashed and everything. If they ever had a plan on going f2p it got shot down that day. Now we get to pay for a sub and the cash shop (you're straight delusional if you don't think there will be one). Had they waited until this year to announce a f2p model I think people would have accepted it, or at least more willing to give it a try. Don't get me wrong though, there would still be a ton of people raging.

If only MMO players realized that cash shop is cheaper than sub + cash shop. Hopefully devs get smart and STOP listening because the vocal minority is ruining the genre. (See QQ)

Wow... just wow. When are these companies going to learn. High cost of admission then I guess $15 monthly with item mall for essentially the same game we've all already played. No thanks. Man, I'm already burned out on this game just from watching clips... been there, done that.

*sighs* $150... really? And you can bet the extra $50 is because of the retarded statue that comes with it. The pricing, and the fact that the in-game collector's store (I'm assuming thats in-game currency, not real money), isn't available for the digital collector's version, actually made me decide NOT to preorder it.

They're charging that price because they can get away with it, simple as.

It's StarWars - arguably one of the biggest franchises on the face of the planet and the game has the potential to attract people that have never played an MMO. There's also those people that are willing to overlook a larger price tag purely because of it being StarWars - myself included.

Do I think it's overpriced? Probably, but it's StarWars, it's an MMO and I'm all over it like puke on a tramp. CE pre-ordered.
