Final Fantasy XIV players have been waiting for patch 1.18 to drop for quite some time, but the wait is finally over. Players can finally access the variety of updates and improvements that the newest patch has promised, including a large overhaul to the combat system that ushers in auto-attack functionality and the addition of the new Grand Companies. While the former is just the first step toward making a more thorough overhaul of the game's combat engine, the latter will give players rank 22 and up new missions to participate in while attempting to safeguard Eorzea.
Other improvements include a streamlining of the enmity system complete with in-game warnings, improvements to repair functionality, and a general streamlining and adjustment of the guildleve system. All told, it's quite a large change to the existing elements of the game, something that Final Fantasy XIV players will no doubt want to devote a fair chunk of time to exploring.

No one should buy the PS3 version, the changes so far have been bandaid fixes. The core of the game, world structure, story, questing, are very damaged, to the point it may be beyond repair. SE took advantage of players, don't pay them to do it again.
Boycott SE products.

@(Unverified) lol that's so pathetic. Stop whining about FFXIV and appreciate that they're actually listening to customer feedback and making changes based on it.
If you don't like the game, don't play it. Some of us DO like it and we DO play it.
Can't wait for the servers to go up :D

Well if you like it, good for you. SE bascially cheated people who bought the intial release copy. Unknowing players that haven't played the game should get a heads up. The game still doesn't deserve praise or a chance, and if this is all a scheme to get PS3 sells, SE needs to be put down for good. People new to FFXIV, do research and learn for your self, this is the worst made game in years, and targets MMO players and the old FF fanbase.

Well I am angery, that is true. I looked forward to this game, and was bascially cheated out of my money. I'm simply giving a bad referral.

No the collector edition I paid for was not free, and the PS3 copy won't be either.

That was your own fault for buying the expensive, launch version of an MMO. It should be common knowledge that MMO launches are largely hit or miss. Buying a collector's edition is always a gamble. That's like getting angry at a slot machine for taking your coins.

Just played for about an hour and ran my first grand company quest and I'm pretty happy. The quest was interesting and I was surprised by what I had to fight (no spoilers). I love the new icons and the combat did seem to flow better although I was playing a caster so auto-attack wasn't a big factor. It was also nice to see a pretty good crowd of folks running the new quests along with me.
Despite what's posted above, the core of the game that mattered is present, the story is only getting more interesting, and the quests more entertaining. I'm really looking forward to exploring some more of the new features.

Still waiting on map/landscape improvements (run from Ul'dah to Gridania and you'll know what I'm talking about) more specific con system (slaughter dozens of orange eyeballs or dodos only to be murdered outright by a blue-con marmot) better chat (too many problems to list), jumping (sure, laugh, but I VERY quickly tired of running ten minute detours around monster-encircled ridges that were no taller than my character's shin. That's not immersion or challenge, it's =lazy design=).
Oh. And for the love of all that is good and holy a client-side focussed UI, not to mention escaping the over-reliance of the Menu button. I only have to load the game for five minutes to know if the latest patch has reduced the degree of torture post-launch-beta-players have to suffer through.
Until then I very strongly sympathize with fellow gamers who laid out box fees in good faith and got shovelware in return. The 'it's free to play' argument is a red-herring. If you lay down your bond money for a luxury apartment only it turns out it's infested with blight-ridden plague-rats and dream-eaters from the abyssal plane, being able to live there for free til they can exorcise the infestation is no comfort at all.

Quests that give XP!! \o/
I didn't think I would like the changes to combat and auto-attack but I actually find it smoother going. The old system was trying to be different but it's like the devs didn't know how to do it. Might as well go back to what they know I guess. :S
The Grand Company missions are great so far, love that there's more in the world now with the settlements though right now it's just aesthetic. But it is a very long awaited for content patch and we're grateful.
