Excellent!

Hopefully CE pre-orders will get some priority for this.

Although, that means release is even further away than I thought.

Bah.

@Dril Keep wishing there. I doubt that they will be able to track who pre-ordered the CE edition. Besides, you can pre-order, get into beta, then cancel your pre-order. So it isn't even a good limiting tool

They can track. The Pre-Order codes for the CE when applied to your account specifically say PRE-ORDER for SW:TOR Collector Edition.
Also there are limited amount of Pre-Order keys for the CE edition.

It won't be excellent if you realise from it that you just bought a polished turd.

That's the beauty of a pre-order.

I can cancel whenever the hell I want.

(Unless it's Turbine, in which case a pre-order actually constitutes a used good and you have to go to PayPal or above to get your money back and a pre-order cancellation in effect; notwithstanding the fact that they tried to suggest that they were somehow incapable of removing things from my account like say, codes they gave me. But I can be glad I no longer have to deal with such scum.)

Ever heard of GAME?

They're a UK retailer. They will charge me just before the game releases and is shipped to me. Until that point, my order is held in trust, and I haven't actually done anything apart from say "I will possibly pay for that when it releases." They will e-mail me a code soon, I can use that code. If TOR does not fulfil my ideals, I may cancel my order and not be charged a single penny.

It's great knowing how retail works before you start talking wishful thinking.

Stephen Reid, the community manager, has stated several times that because something is said in an investor's meeting doesn't make it accurate. I'm not saying that this can't be true. I am saying to take this with a grain of salt until you hear it announced officially by Bioware.

Press releases by parent companies are about as official as you can get. The Doctors wouldn't have allowed EA to release the information, much less quote them, if they weren't ok with it.

Absolutely. And I doubt with all the leaks and the pre-order going live today whether the launch is going to bet pushed ANYWHERE past Sept.

I've been a believer in a Sept. launch for a long time and I don't think that's going to change. If anything BW might want to launch slightly earlier to catch their primary competitor off-guard. (WoW)

Late Aug. is optomistic, but Early to Mid Sept. is looking very likely.

They may simply have the first and/or second weekend of Sept. as these "beta weekends" but I don't know if I buy this at all since many devs at Bioware have FLAT OUT denied their will be any form of Open Beta.

That's what the Early Access with pre-orders are for.

This could however just be "smoke and mirrors" to hide the true release date. And the article doesn't comfirm "holiday" release. It simply says they expect it to be one of the biggest launches of the holiday. That could mean by that quarter this launch would be one of their biggest this year. Which is of course an understatement.

Release date would be nice. Then we know when the next major WoW update is happening (2 weeks before SW:TOR is my guess)

Good guesses; i suspect they'll time Diablo 3 for the same month as SW:TOR.

GW2 will not come until 2012 now I think, which probably gives them some breathing room to differentiate themselves from D3 and SW:TOR.

Diablo 3 isn't even in beta yet (I know it's not an MMO but they've said there will be a beta and that it will last a fairly long time) so suggesting it will be out this year seems a little optimistic.

I kind of laugh at this notion of companies all suddenly putting out something new whenever a new game comes out. Like they're all panicking going "OH NO A NEW GAME! QUICK, PUT OUT SOMETHING NEW AND HALF-ASSED TO DRAW ATTENTION!" A lot of releases from Blizzard and others happen to be well-timed to coincide with their competition's releases, but I don't think they're significantly altering their plans to make that happen.

Expect Diablo 3 to hit at about the same time. Beta for D3 shall be short and sweet, and about the exact same time as these "Beta weekends" you all are talking about. Don't think of only WoW when dealing with Blizzard or you'll be sideswiped by their other amazing IPs. I'd also keep an eye out for the SC2 Expac which should be announced soon as well.

An official EA press release isn't "solid?" Do you actually know how the business world works?

1. The massively readerbase, in general, has moved on from WoW-style rotation based tab targeting games because they are un-original and boring.
2. TOR is a WoW-style rotation based tab targeting game in space.

Therefore the massively community *loves* TOR... wait what?
