@Dunraven You be able to pick up retail for $60 within a month like every other ultimate edition.

The dlc will be part of their microtransaction scheme.

Meh, there is always the normal edition for $50-60.

Granted, the CE is high, but no one is twisting anyone's arm. If people want it, they'll pay.

@C Rose

When it comes to CEs for major titles, you have to move quickly or get left in the cold.

@Infestimus

€ 36.97 listed by gamestop for the normal edition translates to about $50 USD.

What I want is a "digital collectors edition" for say ~$100 where you can get all the in-game benefits.

@Marked

well, Walmart has a placeholder on their site listing $59 USD for the regular edition. rumor mill has a $80 "Digital Deluxe Edition" which is what I wanted (with the in-game bonuses from the collectors edition). I'd be willing to cough up $80. We'll see.

That's really pricey, but if the rumors are true about the CE getting a 6 day headstart, compared to the standard edition getting 3 days, I'll bet a lot of people will fork over the cash to get those extra 3 days.

@Faith I for one will admit to forking over the cash but for the statue not the head start, the way I look at it is like this about $70+ avg for Gentle Giant statue, and about $75 avg for collectors edit box making it about $145 so it is just about (you guessed it) avg. ;-p the head start if true would be nice but it's not what I am personally interested in.

@Unshra

I agree with this.

My elementary school age son is a HUGE Star wars fan. I'll probably buy the CE and give the statute to him for his collection he's had since 5.

I get the game, headstart and some good box art.

Win/win for us here. :)

No game is worth $150 to me unless they included a few months playtime in there too. Smart move by EA though, the amount of people that will surely buy this will help to recover those hundreds of millions they've spent on this behemoth

See, I'd agree except I happily paid that much money for a lifetime sub in Champions. But I'd been in the beta for months and new it was worth it.

$150 PLUS sub strikes me as hysterically over-priced.

I smell a cash shop in SWTOR's future with $20 mounts; five bucks less than a WoW mount just to stick it in Blizzard's face. If this game does go down the money-grubbing route, I may just stay away no matter how fun it may be. Please EA, don't screw the pooch with this one.

To clarify, I'm fine with cosmetic cash shop items but when you charge out the yin-yang for so many other services like server transfers, you can taste the greed in the air and that's a major drawback. It may start out with these items offered for collector's edition, but I could easily see EA emulating Activision's cash grab mantra.

With or without the 150 dollar CE, it was a given that EA was going to do the cash shop thing. Hell, even Star Trek Online has a cash shop, and that's a B rate MMO.

The entire MMO world saw what people paid for the WoW Sparkly Pony mount, and dollar signs began to dance in their heads. As one of the many people who bought the Pony (and several faction changes, and several server transfers) I'd say it's all a matter of what you can afford, and what your entertainment is worth to you.

I had to think for a few minutes about whether I really want the CE. I know people that would have put down 300 on the spot just to say that they did.

@Mystal

Again, if people want to pay for it, more power to them. But what I was trying to illustrate is that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. For Blizzard it was a trickling effect that built up to what we see today, and I imagine to continue in other ways. It's great to give players so many options but the way Blizzard went about it came off as too greedy and there was not enough consumer friendliness. I still like WoW a lot and would love to play it, but I can't justify giving Blizzard more money if I disagree with their business practices. I'm not accusing Bioware and EA of it since we don't know yet, but I'm worried they'll travel down the same path.

Thanks for the reply Mystal, good to hear what others think. I'm curious to hear more from the silent downvoters though. I didn't think it was an unreasonable worry.

Wish I could tell you. I rated a couple comments up, haven't rated any down. Shame that people down rate a civil post just because they disagree.
