Star Trek Online producer Daniel Stahl has penned a new dev diary about the recent fan-driven Enterprise design contest. The piece appears on the official Star Trek website and offers a bit of insight on both the winning entry (submitted by STO fan Adam Ilhe) as well as the lore behind the revamped Enterprise-F.
"In the Star Trek Online timeline of 2409, the galaxy is embroiled in war with numerous threats to peace and stability. This Enterprise is designed to carry a message of peace, as well as to show the strength of resolve that forms the foundation of the Federation," Stahl explains.
Ilhe's ship design will be revealed to players in a forthcoming STO feature episode, and players will get to meet the ship's crew as well as earn their own Odyssey-class vessel. Warp to the official Star Trek website for further details.

Does anyone else think the mid section near the deflector dish looks a little.... fat?

They did not pick a flattering angle for that screenshot. I think pictures they have of the untextured, rough model from different angles look better.

Yeah, you definitely need to see it at the *right angle* for it to look good. Like people, it has it's photographic "bad side"
First thought that came to my mind seeing the link was "Beluga Whale"!

Actually, "Sperm Whale" is probably more apt, but I just like the name "Beluga"!

Nice, kind of has a Voyager vibe, with a hint of Enterprise E.

Iam glad STO and their ships are not canon.

@Hookan91 I can only find speculation on it being canon from CBS from 3rd parties info. Till CBS makes a official announcement or it is shown on the big/small screen I will consider it soft canon.
Till then it is a ugly ship that did not deserve to win and the contest was rigged by cryptic.

@Eamil Its was rigged . The wining ship was not the one that had the most votes.

Did they actually say that the decision would be made by popular vote? I suspect if you read it closely, it will say more or less what actually happened - they took the vote "under advisement" in selecting the final candidates that they (probably meaning "CBS") chose from.

Funny thing about that......Star Trek 2009 erased all Star Trek canon that we know, so. Yeah. Who says there'll ever even be an Enterprise E to progress from?

I've been following this for a while now and I gotta say congrats to the winner again, awesome looking ship. I just hope that when it's in the game they actually make it effective and not just be a massive floating target.

So.....it's the Enterprise E with "a few extra pounds"?
