If you're excited about Joymax's upcoming Digimon Masters Online MMO, you'll be happy to know that the free-to-play gamemaker has just issued a press release heralding an impending closed beta test. Interested players can register via Joymax's main website and set about watching their emails for confirmation.
Joymax is also hosting a Digimon contest on the game's Facebook page, and winners will be chosen each day between now and August 2nd. What's in it for you? How does a $20 Facebook gift card grab you?
Digimon Masters Online is the MMORPG continuation of the popular Digimon franchise. Players will take on the role of a tamer and experience "adrenaline pumping real-time combat" according to Joymax's news blurb.

In my childhood I was a big fan of the anime's first two seasons(liked it much more than Pokemon), too bad - unlike Pokemon- the series never got a decent game. I'll probably check this one out, being F2P.

There are youtube videos under Digimon Masters, doesn't sound all that good... Graphics look ok, not horrible, not great.
"The game is based on the television series, Digimon Data Squad. You begin by choosing between Marcus, Keenan, Yoshino, and Thomas as your character and choosing one of four partner digimon. You then level up your character and digimon and collect new digimon."

I hope this doesn't turn out to be Digimon Battle 2.0, which... was honestly just a mindless grindfest and frustratingly tedious.
I don't think any future Digimon game could be as horrible as that poor excuse of a game (That wasn't even as good as the Digimon World RPG series that it -seemed- to be somewhat similar to). This one looks interesting, so... hopefully this one will deliver.

Well, after looking at a video of it... It definitely looks better than the shitty Digimon Battle "MMO" that Massively talked about around a year ago. However, it looks like it just takes WoW's formula (except you're a pet class all the time, and your pet is your Digimon which does all the fighting for you, from the looks of it). . . which... yeah... Looks interesting, but... not sure if I really want to play that. Ooh well.

To be fair, that's all Digimon really was. It wasn't until WAAAAY later in the series that the Digimon trainers (or whatever you want to call em) gained the ability to fuse with their Digimon partners to form something stronger.
Yeah... I loved me some Digimon, as well as Pokemon... which is why I registered to try this game out at least. That other MMO just seemed rather... meh. If I wanted turn-based battles or the like, I got a bunch of Pokemon to play instead.

Really the main irritation though is how, just like in the past one, you're forced to play a character from the series rather than being able to make your own unique character.
Hoping they'll have better customization features though for those characters, beyond random clothes you can find.

Yeah, that actually bugs me as well. Its not a deal breaker, but past Digimon titles just inferred you were some random character, and its just fine that way. I can understand them wanting to use established characters because we are playing through an established story, but I really hope there is room for diversification.

It seems Digimon will do what I wish Pokemon would and refuses to. Very well. I shall sign up for this game, but mark my words Nintendo: There will be a Pokemon MMORPG one day. Oh yes, there will be. MUHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!

There's no beta sign up link or anything on that site, where are all of you going to sign up for it? Or do you just make a JoyMax account and make sure the settings in it are fine? Cause there's no sign up for Digimon Masters Online's beta? >.>

I checked the facebook page, seems that if you register for a JoyMax account you automatically register for beta access to any game they release. So I guess just gotta register.

I saw "Digimon" and said, "Oh, hell yes. I'm all for it."
Then I saw, "Joymax" and said, "Awwwwwwwwwwwww crap..."
After the mess they left with Silk Road, I'm in no way anxious to give them a second go, even if it is Digimon.
