We may be smack dab in the middle of the dog days of summer, but there's plenty of cool stuff to do inside if you're into MMORPGs. The latest diversion takes the form of Troy Online's open beta. While there's a conspicuous absence of Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom, there are three traditional fantasy classes, 49 levels, and plenty of excuses to engage in free-to-play PvE and PvP.
ALT1 Games is kicking off Troy's open beta phase on August 12th, and the testing period will be used primarily to finalize features, balance, and latency issues. The open beta will also see all quests and quest arcs, the maximum level cap, and all available zones introduced to the live game in order to get ready for the impending commercial release.
You can read more about Troy, as well as register for an account and a beta slot, at the game's official website.

Looks interesting. Anyone who played Closed Beta have feedback?
Reminds me of Runes of Magic's graphics style.

I believe we are still under NDA, so I won't go into specifics, but I will say that, aside from the very Asian-looking character models, it offers a Greek/Roman theme in a much slicker package than Gods and Heroes. It also already has a PvP system, and promises chariot and castle wars as well.

NDA be damned; this is without a doubt the worst F2P game I've played. Fair warning, I don't go looking at many different F2P games in general, as usually they're a big disappointment, and this one is no exception.
Not only is it Asian looking, but it plays much like an Asian game in terms of the way the controls and combat feel and execute.
Me and a friend started playing together specifically with an eye toward the PvP. The PvP matches are a joke. At least, we didn't have any fun because the horrible controls and feel of the combat were too distracting.
On the plus side, we didn't have to pay anything.

tried it for 30 seconds.
it is far worse than any other f2p asian game out there. it even looks more dated.
looking at this game, now I understand why asians release 1000 games per year...because it takes them 40 minutes to make one...

I have to say after looking at some of the vids for this game, it looks like another generic asian game with a different coat of paint. Looks like the same graphics and sound engine used for numerous other asian games.
And when oh when are these types of games going to get rid of those utterly annoying sound effects, it's like something out of an 80's arcade game. It's ancient Troy so you expect meaty 'thunk' type of effects, nope full of ping, ding, ping, ping, ping. Let alone the female voices that sound like that of a 12 year old.
Asian developers can make some decent games, but it seems evertime you turn around there is another one of these generic ones being released onto the market.

I am not saying all Asian games are crap. But when they have diarrhea when it comes to making bad games.

Nothing quite says ancient Greece like half-naked, big-boobed, blue-haired. fireball-shooting anime chicks wearing skirts so short they could pass for a rather thin belt.
