First of all, we'd like to say that if we don't get the "Most Eminently Cheery Journalist" award, we may have to convert to the dark side and start throttling Jawas or something.
What's this all about? In order to raise money for GamesAid, a UK-based charity, NCsoft has decided to host the first Golden Chippies Awards to celebrate the best and brightest MMO journalists in the British Empire. These wink-wink, nudge-nudge awards will be handed out on Wednesday, July 20th, and are a lead-up to the real Develop Awards ceremony.
Among the awards are "GM Award for Appearing to Know More than the Developers" and the "Twink Award for the Strongest Introduction to MMO Journalism."
NCsoft's Cat Channon introduced the event with sentiment that we at Massively would like to echo: "MMO journalism is a labour of love for those involved. A niche but growing subset of traditional gaming media, these guys really are doing it through devotion to the genre."

Well done Massively.
Your thorough journalism means that, despite random links dotted throughout the article, there isn't actually a link to main subject matter: the awards.

@Dril
Well, the awards show seems to be on the 20th of July, so if you are looking for a list of awards that have been given out, best visit your local TARDIS retailer or Time Tunnel supplier.

@Dril There's no link because there's no official site. This was a press release sent to us. Sometimes that's just how life works out.

Seems to be a way of rewarding sites/writers that post articles that are more favorable to NcSoft. In order to win an award you have to conform to a standard set by the people you're supposed to be watching/reporting on. When the object of observation obtains control of the watcher/reporter the objectivity of the site/writer comes under question.
NcSoft could use some good press...

"NcSoft could use some good press... "
Since when? They're absolutely massive in Asia and they aren't exactly struggling in North America either.
As for whether the rewards end up being biased towards only those that shine them in a positive light, we'll have to wait and see. Speaking of which, if NCSoft WERE in need of good press then it would make no sense at all for them to do something that would be guaranteed to give them lots of negative press (like rigging a journalism award).

From what I am reading into the article and website, it seems a bit like a "Celebrity Roast" in that it's mostly a "fun event" and nothing too serious or longterm. You give out a silly award for something like, "Best use of flowers in a website/blog" and just have fun with it. It's not supposed to be serious and it promotes a charity.

Hmm Cat Channon... I wonder if her friends call her "Cat Cannon" for fun.

As long as this isn't buying biased. Games have flaws, companies do stupid things, we come here to get fair honest news. We could be hugely disapppointed with GW2, end of the day it's the quality of the game that matters.

It's not journalism. White House correspondents don't lose access because they ask hardball questions or are critical, unlike MMO/gamer "journalists".

Methinks a few commenters here have somehow missed the words "wink-wink, nudge-nudge awards" in the article.
