"The seas have not calmed here at Trion as we continue to bring you more to enjoy with each update," Trion Worlds' James Nichols writes. Why doth the seas continue to roil? Because RIFT's patch 1.4 is landing on test servers tomorrow, July 14th, at 6:00 p.m. EDT.
Patch 1.4 follows 1.3's Waves of Madness world event, Hammerknell raid and guild banks with even more high-profile goodies. Probably one of the most-requested features, the ability to look for groups across servers, will be part of the update. This will allow the LFG tool to draw from a wider range of potential dungeon runners.
Also included in the testing process is an alternative gameplay mode for the Whitefall Steppes PvP warfront. Players will have to collect and hold Sourcestone at their base to activate powerful rune cannons to obliterate the enemy.
Instructions on how to participate in RIFT's public test server can be found over at the site.

Cross-server dungeons?
I honestly didn't think Trion could do any more to make Rift less appealing to me than it already was.
I was wrong.
Still, at least this confirms that Rift is simply WoW for people who don't want to play WoW.

Sadly, I agree. I've logged in less and less these days. LFD tool has already killed most of the world (yes, I'm a PvPer), this isn't going to help it any. It's pretty much the last nail in the coffin for outside interaction, both PvP and PvE (after all, why go out and quest/rift when you can stand in the capital and get your loot handed to you?)
The things that have darkened WoW to date are being implemented here. I guess, like WoW, I'll have to keep an eye out for a "vanilla" server to play on in order to get the experience that drew me in the first place (ie CHALLENGING GAMEPLAY).

" Faster ques are bad?
I don't get the attitude that cross server ques are bad. "
It's not the fact that faster queries are bad, in fact it is an awesome concept. But like communism (it only looks good on paper), actual implementation in the real world results in a different outcome. It's the total lack respect in a PUG and the removal of accountability for a person's actions. You could go into a PUG as a TANK (query time 1-3min), roll need on every freaking item that drops and laugh at the fools that need the items, oh and those 3 DPS that need those items that you rolled on had to wait in query for (10-20min). Now you can vote out the loot ninja if you want to, but that person is the tank and if you kick them you could be waiting another 30min for another one to join. In addition if another tank joins and realizes that you are half-way done with the instance, they could leave and you have to wait even longer. By then most people in the group are fed up and they leave to, so out of the instance you go, back at the end of the line, waiting for another group.
The loot ninjas are not the only problem. One out of every three groups has at least one retard that has no respect for other people; They resort to name calling and refuse to help. Now this would rarely happen on a server that is not cross-realm, people tend to treat it like a home rather than a hotel room. Cross-realm servers let people "use each other" and act a fool. There is nothing personal in a cross-realm PUG, you use the people that your with and you leave, no "Hi", no "Bye", just "Do your job or we kick you out of the group."

Just play with your community only friends like you do now anyways. No one will force you to use the cross realm feature. Why hate on people that want to expand their toon growth without the extra hassles?

@Bladerunner83 The usual flaw in the argument complaining about cross-server groups isn't that you can get a bad group, or that it is impersonal. It's that single server grouping wasn't ever the bed of roses that it's made out to be. I played WoW for years before there was anything cross-server, and you know what? I had some dogawful groups, people that rolled for stuff they couldn't use and jerky behavior.
Nothing ever stops you from grouping only with your servermates, and I would usually group with two or three other guildies and grab a random. Sometimes they worked out, sometimes they were carried and sometimes they were terrible. Just like it always has been.

New patch coming improving more stuff. Game must be dying!
I kid, I kid.
Glad to see some PvP coming down the pipes rather than "we added another raid!"
And to the first upcoming troller about to post "another Rift post?!?!": Yes, get over it. Check the bottom menus if you're wondering where your WoW news is.

Why is it going cross-server? I thought it was widely requested that it be single-shard?

hartsman said long ago (january or feb) that Rift was going to have LFG queues and if they needed to for wait time reduction they'd go cross server I think. Pretty sure I read that somewhere.
Apparently the need is there now, which says theres something kinda wrong with the pops if it was single server now it's cross server after like a month.
I dont think Trion let a few people talk them into changing it to x-server, they don't seem like that kind of company.

People have such selective memories.
During the Gamer Day Roundtable Discussion, Scott Hartsman had clarified that the dungeon queue system could possibly be cross-shard. "It will be if we need to reduce wait times"

Well, WoW has cross-server and that's not due to population problems.
