@blix2006

Yeah, any reviews? Is it only space ship combat? Comparable to Wing Commander?

I have always wondered about extensive beta tests when a product is launched elsewhere already.

I generally find, in the computing world, when a program is finished you can install it on many computers and it works the same (assuming the computer specs match too). It isn't as though they test the client with each subscriber.

Hasn't the NA servers for this game been in beta for 6 or more months now?

@Anatidae You are assuming this game was made in English for the US audience. It was not, it was made in German primarily for the EU countries. Considering the European release was only around 3 months ago, that is not at all an unreasonable time to test localization.

I like it, I have been CBT and OBT, well not much OBT since I am lvl 39 out of lvl 40 (2nd highest pilot, before I stopped playing to take a break). There was no wipe from CBT to OBT hence why I was lvl 39 at OBT.

I am a huge, Space Combat fan, WC1, WC2, FS1, FS2 and the sort. This game does rely on skill to PvP with also. It is a grind though.

I have been in beta for a long time now, I really like it, and it plays like Freelancer with missions like Wing Commander. also has open Faction PvP sectors, and clan space stations. Its fun and worth trying. :free: after all.

I wonder how many disgruntled EVE players this is going to pick up.

@StClair

Not as many as you would think because it is twitch based rather than a skill up 'auto-attack' system like standard MMOs.

The ship interaction as far as outfitting and skills is 'kindergarten simple' compared to EVE as well.

Decent game, might redownload tomorrow to see how many bugs they stomped out of the CBT I was in.

I don't know about that. But it might be a good game for someone who wanted to get into an EvE like world on the ground floor.

It's tough to get started in EvE now so this would be a good chance for people to make something of themselves and not get wiped in seconds by people playing for seven years already with superships.

@StClair This is a very different game from EvE. Having said that, though it's still new, it is a pretty fun game to play.

For anyone wanting to try this out. It's pretty much Freespace 2 the MMO.

@TheMustacheHero I tried it briefly and agree. It feels like Freespace.

But MMO? It was lobby-based when I bothered with the beta, and the 'open' instances were a free-for-all gankfest.

Has this changed? Are there vast open spaces to explore and wander, resources to gather, an economy to trade in?

Or is it lobby-based shooter PVP battlegrounds and PVE instance runs and no metagame to speak of?

@Borick Well, it's labeled as an MMO. I mean, I wouldn't know what else to call it. But from what I can tell yeah, it's still all instanced zones.

Wonder how many EVE players drift over here on autopilot. Game any good?

I was in the beta for a time. Never could get the controls to work at all well (keyboard). Seemed like it needed a joystick to play.

I did beta some months back. It was fun for a few days, then it all started to look the same. Go into instance, kill whoever, leave.

I guess they could've added a bunch of new, varied content since I left though.

@Degu. This is my experience too in briefly playing the live version in EU. I was really looking forward to this game but when it arrived, it all seemed quite similar and the instancing really took away the sense of immersion and openness that space should give you. The missions were all the same with slightly different wording but the game looked beautiful (although I do have a high spec PC) and if you like twitch based space combat they do it really well and the controls are spot on. Definitely worth trying as its free (but I wouldn't say worth paying for but that's just me)
