As with the earlier preview, the dungeon is hinted to have both Imperial forces and more primal ones working in concert to make the twisting passages more dangerous for adventurers. The Darkhold is the higher-level of the two dungeons, aimed at parties of eight at rank 40 and up. Final Fantasy XIV players should glance at the lore-filled preview as well as the video teaser, embedded just past the cut.

With a confirmed date finally in place for Final Fantasy XIV's patch 1.18, players are eagerly anticipating both the new content and the new changes to systems. The past several days have seen previews for system updates, but today players are being treated to a sneak peek at one of the new dungeons, including a short video detailing an excursion into the Dzemael Darkhold. And while the preview does feature a rather notable adversary at the end, it's hardly the only interesting element on display.

I quit the day we got concrete details about the auto attack system.
this game + typical auto attack bullshit of babysitting cool down timers = actually living up to it's reputation.

can you jump yet?

... eventually, they said they are re-doing many of the areas to allow for it.
kinda pointless to put in a jump animation without anything to actually jump over/off and that means re-adjusting the invisible barriers that keep people from wandering off the map.

Are there klaxons and a voice that warns you when the time is about to run out on the dungeon experience?
"Wooooot! Wooooooot! Woooooooot! Warning, T-minus 60 seconds until automatic dungeon shutdown!"
Anyhow, the timers they put on content like dungeons and leves was annoying, just one among many poor design choices.

Nothing about that was exciting, inventive, or stood out from any other MMO. Same mobs models, boring cave, a simple race track to run. That is Pitiful.
Boycott SE products.

Man, I still can't believe this game was stillborn at birth like this. It was messed up in the womb and born deformed.
I was hoping it would turn around but to see the same mob models I've grinded for months back when SP parties was big..
I can only hope Arche Age gives me that kind of free world that I thought FFXIV was going to give me with buildable houses, boats, huge world and open space.
I don't see any other games with this kind of map space being made right now.

Fans are viewing this update as pure awesome-sauce. Sure, it may not be anything special, but it's more content. The game is growing and soon it'll be in a great state.
Bigots and haters, on the other-hand, can't see that S-E is actually trying hard to make the game good, and say we should boycott S-E products. Well sorry, but no, I won't boycott S-E because one development team was so utterly bad that they ruined a could-be-good game. There's a new team in control now. Grow up.

I might say that the game will be "acceptable" if the patch does what it says it's going to do. "Great," though? This game would need a couple of years worth of regularly-released, fully-featured patches before it could approach greatness.
The game was released last September in an embarrassing state and notwithstanding the Market Ward system, what major upgrades have been made in the past ten months? A handful of pretty-looking buckets of hit points known as NMs? A few more "kill ten foozle" quests imported directly from the year 2004? I say all this as a supporter of the game and as someone who convinced a friend to buy the Collector's Edition.
No, if this patch does what it sets out to do, I can see people coming back to try the game again but, seriously, the "great" FFXIV is still far away.

That's not true kunic.
Many people played the game since beta too (like me) don't hate it, played FFXI as our first games but just can't believe SE messed up this bad.
I think they did some good things, but that dungeon doesn't give me hope. It's those same lightning stun hounds, those oberons, and the toads. the only thing new was the boss and they showed him doing nothing but walking and glowing.
It's not hate, it's reality at this point but I don't think boycott is necesary like people call for. It's not like SE is charging to actually play FFXIV so there is nothing to boycott.
It's like saying 'boycott beta testing!" which makes no sense.

Well they did mess up hugely. Still I DO have hope for long term at least. Not like we got vanilla FFXI either anyways. It released here post first expansion and from what I hear there were problems then too.. So I'm not going to put FFXI on a pedistle but... it's not acceptible in this day and age.. I can't help but think the ps3 version needs at least one year... maybe two before it can be considered "okay for release". Thing is will Square put that much money into this game? I can't help but feel they won't. No disrespect to the current team working on it.

The launch was bad, the game was bad, and the company was bad as well. But I find myself respecting Yoshi, as a gamer, and as a project manager.
BUT I think there are every indications that they get it. They are not charging anything now. The new management of the game is really heading towards the right directions.
A lot of the major changes will be delivered this summer, including dungeons, grand company, combat upgrades, new classes system and new quests.
I won't go back now, but i will in summer. I hope the game will be decent then, and I hope that ppl will give it a try, just to give Mr Yoshi a chance to get redemption for SE and FF failures.

There is only going to be two dungeon.
do they realize how flowed they will be once the patch comes out?
Technically this is the first real content for the game, which will lead to hordes of player want to access the dungeon.
Though once ps3 player join they going to have the illusion that there is lot of content in the game. For player that have been there since beginning it an other story

FFXI was like this, too, when NA release came there was already an expansion out. FFXI had already been running in Japan for at least a year and a half by the time it came out over here.
It seems to me since SWG is evaporating soon, all those QQNGE people are moving to FFXIV and SE, even though they probably haven't touched this game in at least half a year and looked at any of the changes.
