DUST's problems doesnt lie on the pricing model. they lie in the platform CCP picked to distribute the title...

@Fabius Bile it also lies in the fact that if a metal eyepatch cost $70 then I assume a gun will run someone in Dust around $185.

stay tuned for laffs

@Fabius Bile

I remember reading a few weeks ago that they said they weren't ruling out a possible future PC release, but for now they're focused on getting the PS3 version out.

@Eamil I thought the PC version had been pretty solidly ruled out? They wanted a consistent experience through the PSHome service, which is why they didn't release cross-platform to 360 (and, you know, because XBox Live sorta sucks. I may not like the company or console, but the PS3 has the better online implementation... assuming the security has been unborked).

@(Unverified) "They wanted a consistent experience through the PSHome service"

I've seen a few different reasons given for the PS3 exclusive, but this is not one I've seen, and it doesn't really make a lot of sense to me.

@Fire Walk With Me No doubt- A free to play model for Eve Online is going to split the community though.

@Lateris I was just thinking that once an MMO loses sales steam they always cut the entry price.

There is very little chance that DUST514 will go on PC , as it's on the PS3 and PS = Sony and SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) will realease in a few month Planetside 2 which will be somehow a MMOFPS too

That was one impressive leap of logic. Sony has no say as to whether or not DUST can appear on the PC in the future, and DUST 514 will have no affiliation with Sony Online Entertainment, similar to how Final Fantasy XI has no affiliation to SOE. Sony can't block DUST because CCP decided to put it on the PC, and they definitely can't block DUST because they're putting out Planetside Next.

I'm not sure what you meant by Planetside 2 being "somehow a MMOFPS." How is there doubt in PS Next being an MMOFPS? It has open world, non-instanced gameplay.

@Omali

u can be right as if CCP do Dust514 on PC they will prolly have to remove it from PS3, if they dont, i think SOE will have something to say about it, if you dont think, then it's your problem....

@(Unverified) if they dont have a contract with SOE who cares what SOE thinks? They are bottom of the barrel in MMOs.

It looks like Dust and Planetside 2 are almost the same game.(Minus the Eve connection of course). But Planetside 2 has more color. Dust just looked bleh. I think Planetside 2 wil have more interesting mechanics on the sandboxy side of things.

1. Any price point will add a layer of accountability so that needless griefing might be slightly reduced. I think this is a sound policy

2. However, "You're really getting the game for free " Is 100% false, unless in game credits can be cashed out for USD, Then you are really paying to get the game, and getting free credits. Maybe this is CCP saying you should sell your credits to RMT sites..

3. I think a PC version will eventually arrive, if for no other reason than the PS3 time is limited, eve was release in 2003, as opposed to 2006 for ps3, and they will still be chugging(probably) in 2012 or whenever Sony releases ps4

@DrewIW No, they're covering WoD costs. DUST got a shirt to cover it.

"You're really getting the game for free but you have to pre-buy credits in the beginning." -- Really? MMOs may need some regulatory body to step in and do something about the ever-increasing F2P doublespeak.

@Silverangel Doublespeak is a common business term, while always sleazy, it is common nonetheless. Nothing has been done to keep others from doing it, hence we have things like infomercials and other types of advertisements that are crap ( For example did you know you can grow you male member another 15 inches?!?! )
