A Ranger? They are one reason I quit, a ranged character with stealth. Stealth on Rangers is OP and a stupid mechanic, throw in that search skill.... end rant

"Blood and Glory will gather most of the PvP-minded folks on one server and leave the PvE majority in relative peace"

That would be nice but experience has taught that there is a significant percentage of 'hardcore pvp'ers' who either enjoy ruining pve'ers fun and/or prefer attacking those much weaker. I don't think those people will enjoy an environment where there are many good pvp'ers who don't cry if you've ganked them while pve'ing.

@Paradigm68 Those folks are already complaining on the official forums because they can't have more than one character to hide behind. They're bragging about how they destroyed Cimmeria by making the game no fun for anyone because Funcom wouldn't comply with their demands and claim to be preparing to do the same thing to Deathwish.

I bought the collector's edition of this game and was so hyped about it at release, but little did I know that any MMORPG could have so stupidly, ridiculously imbalanced classes in a full, released version.
The game that boasted chopping of heads and generally wanted to attract the people who wanted to experience a bit of silly (but fun!) simulated CONAN-esque bloodshed actually had so overpowered CASTERS that many called it Age of Casters at that time.
An example: two of my friends, along with me, all soldier classes, were struggling with two NPCs, hanging on a thread, barely escaping death, when a HEALER class, whatsitcalled, "tempest of Set" I think, waltzed in, pulled like 12 of those same npcs, and AOE them to death in SECONDS.
After that, we kinda looked at the game hard, and all the "potential" that it had couldn't stop us from quitting.
Balanced PvP in Age of Conan? Maybe, if they change the whole dev team and replace it with someone with brains.

@wizyy Yeah, because 3 year old input is still valid this day. Why are you even posting this? It doesn't serve any purpose but to turn away potential players.

AoC is not a PvP game. No MMO is. If you want a proper skill-based PvP with tight class balance play an arena game (like Bloodline Champions or Guild Wars) where you'll be on equal ground with everyone. In MMOs you'll always have someone with a higher PvP level or better gear destroying you.

The worst community I have ever seen, I cant ignore kids fast enough.

I am just going to stay at tier 1 and do lowbie PvP. No way in hell I am going to grind again.

"You would think that the supposedly savvy hardcore PvP crowd (you know, those vets who've been around the block a few times since the days of Darktide and pre-Trammel) would know better than to rise to the flame-bait that skitters across global every few seconds like a cockroach when the lights come on."

I think you meant that to read, "You would LIKE TO think that ...," etc. Because I, for one, know better than to think any such thing. I've been around MMOs long enough to know that FFA PvP brings out the worst in a lot of people. The traditional explanation is what academics call "the online disinhibition effect" (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GIFT), but that doesn't explain why PvP servers have it worse than PvE servers.

My theory is that all it takes is one of these future trolls to get ganked, even once, on a character that they identified with and wanted to never, ever die, wanted to never, ever get beaten on, for them to go into full-on insatiable perma-rage; they suffered, and now the whole world must suffer, forever and ever.

I don't PvP anyway, so I would never be on those hardcore PvP servers, but making players only able to have one character - and, thus, both limiting the variety of play styles a player could experience on the server, and making players unable to be self-sufficient when crafting - would guarantee I would never even try the server. The only way I can settle for a single character is in a Free Realms like scheme - i.e., the character can have all classes and crafting professions, and easily switch between them. Or if the game has no classes at all, like Spiral Knights.

The reason a one charcter system is good is that you can not hide behind alts. It is good on a PvP server but your right, it is not a good thing for a PvE server.

Like how all the little punks talk crap on the internet but cower in real life because they know they will get thier ass handed to them for it.

Not that I don't understand that, but, for me at least, any potential benefit of single characters is overshadowed by the negatives.

BTW, another way I could support the scheme would be to not limit the number of characters, but have all of them share the same name. No way to hide behind other names, but no limitation on what the player can do.

You know I never hear anyone QQ about ganking in FPS games : )
MMO PvP is flawed due to level and character skill/gear ballance.

They should have made this server with one free lvl 80 and removed AA's and therefore no need for murder points etc.

Mostly agree.
The only way I play PvP is when everyone is on an equal footing, character-wise. When this is the case, I actually enjoy PvP.
If it's possible to a player to have a character that is simply inferior to another, and it would require farming (for stats or PvP gear, it does not matter) to correct the disparity, I won't be playing that PvP mode.

Anyhow, single-character servers. They're better.

Why does it matter when you can just roll another f2p account to circumvent whatever it is you think a single player server is stopping?
