There is the far superior SWGEmu, it's not like SWG is going away, just the shitty NGE.

The one thing I would absolutely love to see, which I doubt they could do... is the Battle of Endor. Put a death star up there, and for the last few weeks let us battle it out in that saga defining moment.

I was thinking the other day, how well this game would translate into a Firefly/Serenity MMO. There wouldn't be aliens, but otherwise a lot of the thematic elements in the game are also in the series/movie.

@Furdinand
I would love to see that. A Firefly universe sandbox MMO. Yes please!

@jonnyfrag Not going to see a Firefly MMO any time soon. Joss Whedon and Fox already screwed us over on the one that was planed just to do a Buffy mmo which from the looks also fell through. Joss Whedon has become as bad as Lucas Arts IMO.

Sent a tip in about this earlier, but one big thing they're looking to add now that they finally got it working is...drumroll please...

Atmospheric Flight!

Yes, Hjal showed some gameplay footage of actual atmospheric flight in SWG. They're hoping to bring it to the game by November. It's a bit of bittersweet news, though.

I think it would be amazing if they dropped the subs for the last few months and just asked everyone to come back to enjoy it one last time.

I have a feeling that a Classic Era Star Wars MMO will be back within 10 years and it will be earth shatteringly cool.

They are making the game free for ALL around september/october - should be a quote in one of the posts here on massively

Also, to the whiner, SHUT UP ALREADY!!! LET IT GO!!!

You have been crying about the "NGE/cu" updates for YEARS - yet SWG is still an amazing games. NOTHING was really changed for the worse, only IMPROVED -

SWG is not going to end because of two friggin updates years ago. SWG is going to end because SOE(and pretty much all other mmo devs) DO NOT understand how to CORRECTLY promote their games. They continue to promote to the same pool of 25million CURRENT mmo players, instead of promoting to nongamers and gamers that dont play mmos. Over 500 million computer owners , all which are portential mmo gamers, dont even know that mmo exist!!! But since devs are too ignorant to see that, games like SWG and others will die or go f2p because of stupidity.

We have 5 AMAZING months left and a massive "world-ending event battle" so have fun and enjoy one of the greatest games ever made!!!

Then, when it ends, buy SWTOR and kick some butt in the old world :)

"NOTHING was really changed for the worse, only IMPROVED - "

*cough* subscriber numbers *cough*

As for skill system vs. leveling system with (much later addition) expertises, that is a subjective decision, but I'm definitely on the side that favors the old skill system.

Oh, and they are NOT making the game free for ALL, they are making it free for people that have an active subscription on the 15th of september.
I am WRESTLING with the thought of having to pay these clowns just to say a proper goodbye to a game I really used to like.

You obviously never made an Entertainer character pre-NGE, only to see your character completely invalidated and useless.

I made several entertainers pre-NGE, and pre-CU.
And I loved them all dearly.

Turning them into a combat character was a huge mistake.

Oh and if you havent played ANY SOE games in a few months, or havent played SWG.....

ALL ACCOUNTS got 45DAYS for ALL GAMES to play, even games that you dont own! (think 45day trials)

So come on and kick some butt in the SWGs!!

This is going to worth watching when the time comes for closure. I wonder if some players, and i would wager there are, will be really mentally messed up when they lose all the time invested and their character?

swgemu.. is the answer.
The game doesn't have to die.

In fact, why not go back and play it as it lives on the CDs you bought.

All the EMU needs is more people playing it.

Rose colored glasses... playing the emu reminds you of how the original game lacked content... big time. Yes, the skill system was FAR superior and you had a big universe to play in, but you were just killing critters over and over.
