Just uninstalled, this would have gotten me to at least play for 100 kills. Oh well.

If you like a good shoot-em-up APB is actually a pretty fun game. I'm really enjoying it and trying my best at those 100 unique kills, which is actually *very* since on a mission your probably kill the same guy over and over.

Forever I have been searching for a game that rewards player skill, lacks grind, but has a persistent feel and awesome customization. GA came close, but this has satisfied all my needs as you can even take on 1v4/1v5 situations if you are good enough.

The game is awesome, and completely free. I encourage all that are on the fence to check it out!

This pistol sucks though =P

Honestly, I shouldn't have to spend real money to jump through the developer's weekly "hoops" to secure my characters permanent weapons. The weapons on my characters shouldn't disappear after X days, degrade and need to be fixed, sure, but magically go "poof", even if you aren't logged in? That's just dumb.

@MtthwRddl I concur. Expiring weapons irked me when I replayed APB. I was indifferent about it at first. So I kept playing. It kept nagging me that my weapons were expiring and I was in an endless sea of payments. I uninstalled and never went back.

I don't like having a lease, not in real life and especially not a virtual world where I'm trying to escape the obligations and annoyances of life.

It's like playing cops and robbers as a kid with a salesman babysitting you, asking if you give him a quarter he'll let you keep the cap gun a little while longer.

Why am I leasing guns for? Is there some extreme shortage of guns in San Paro (Cleary not)? Do the crims and enforcers run their shops like RedBox/Blockbuster? Or is it just some developer behind the scenes coming up with schemes to get people to pay money?

I don't care if you are a business and need to make money. So do loan sharks but does that make it alright?

@Tizmah I'm the "free-to-play guy" on the site. You won't find a greater champion for the payment model. But...I HATE timed virtual goods as well. They've been showing up here and there but are still pretty uncommon, but I literally will avoid them.

Heck, just charge a little more and let me keep it...but yeh, that "renting" is for the birds.

@Beau Hindman

I couldn't agree with you folks more. This is the reason I myself quit APB, permanent weapons are only for the cash shop. The same thing happened in AVA, only in that game, permament items were crazy expensive (like, $40,000 compared to renting for 4k). Playing in the game didn't even get you money, it got you "supply points" that would eventually give you money when you filled the bar.

I know companies like these have a bottom line to make money, but if it meshes too much, if the prize at the end is too far away, it feels hopeless. Sigh. Oh well. I must say though, this game is insanely fun... if you're into smashing cars around. That was the only genuine fun I was having in APB, to be frank.

@ShivanSwordsman We know a business need to make money...it just comes to the point where, are you really trying to make a game or a casino game? When you are putting a concept in your game and it's basis is on generating revenue...you're doing it wrong. It's about fun. Fun sales itself and is the best way to generate revenue. Anything else is just greed and deceitfulness. When "How can we get players to spend at the shop" comes as the philosophy for your gameplay elements...That's when it's gone to far.

I'm not against Free 2 Play or a Cash shop. But when it starts getting into the game design itself...It's a poison. I gave up on returning to LOTRO when I was given a quest on a tutorial on how to use the cash shop to "purchase" a quest. I was disgusted frankly. And the fact that the Cash shop icon was giant compared to the rest of the icons...it's the little things, but they can grow and consume.

@MtthwRddl. I would love everything to be free but its not that kind of world. It stands to reason that if you lease something (e.g. a car) for a set period of time, when that time expires you have to return it. Or you can spend more money and buy it outright - same principal with APB weapons. What everyone on this thread seems to be forgetting is that you can easily purchase leased weapons in-game with in-game money, which itself is easily attained without effort - it doesnt matter if its a repair charge, or a re-lease charge, its still a regular amount of money to pay to maintain your items. In fact a lot of people say the weapons that are unlocked at higher ranks are better than marketplace weapons. People complain about the price of permanent weapons in the marketplace but they forget that the game is free and this one-off purchase (which is similar to the box price of a game) means that they wont need to spend anything more ever again, which is no different to buying a game at Amazon, i.e. one off charge, unlimited usage. Even the Marketplace weapons have equal and similar alternatives buyable with in-game currency, albeit you have to unlock the high tiered contact in further in the game. "Real-money" weapons are only for those who do not want to spend the time to achieve them, which is how it should be with F2P: spend nothing but time to get the good stuff or spend real money to take a short cut (although the balance of some marketplace weapons is quite poor which isn't a business model issue, more of a gameplay issue which G1 need to correct to make in-game weapons equal with purchased weapons so there is no "Pay to Win").

I'm not saying the business model is perfect or that I agree with it, just saying it was the lesser of many evils. In fact I would prefer it if NO weapons were in the marketplace, and it was only vehicles, parts, premiums, logos etc to make it an even playing field.

I'd be lucky to kill 2 different player characters. Actually, I'd be lucky to kill one player character twice. Pretty sure if I kept at it all weekend I could kill one player character once, though.

Its hard not to take the shot so i must...the voices in my head compel me to do so.

Ahem....."You mean APB has a hundred folks playing to even pull this promotion off?"

Grin.

If that were a real gun I might have been persuaded to install the horrible game.

I would like to continue playing this game. But the lag just makes it unplayable. There's no sugar coating it. Nevermind all of the expiring weapons and what not. I just can't enjoy the game when I'm lagging so hard I kill my teammates.

@Tezcatli There's a common bug fix for the lag you describe. I had it when I first installed, did the fix and now I play with 0 lag, and I mean that, 0 lag.

Also to other commentors about the timed weapons. Generally the weapon I buy costs about 7k... I can earn that much in about an hours playtime. The mods you buy for the weapon are permanent can be extracted even when the weapon expires. So really what you're saying by complaining about the vanishing weapons is that 1 hour every 10 days is too much time to get something for FREE.

@Nucleon

Its more a matter of precedence. Timed goods set a bad precedence, plain and simple. I don't care if it takes me 5 seconds to re-earn my gear, the fact that I even need to be concerned about that is completely bogus.

Its a cheap (very, very cheap) way to force players to keep putting time into the game, to keep them in the RMT shop, and to keep a lackluster game afloat. Sorry, but no thanks. I'll stick to games made by developers that actually care about content, not ones that use cheap gimmicks to create an illusion of content.

I played an hour in closed Beta before I uninstalled and nothing I've seen or heard since has made me regret that decision.

@Nucleon I was looking around for fixes. I found one that turned off some graphic settings lower then the regular settings allowed. it still lagged. If you could direct me to this fix, I'd be grateful.

currently "trying" to play it this weekend. But there are so many people on and the lag is so horrid that I cant do anything. Most people are just running around slamming cars into each other cause its impossible to drive one with all the lag.

I've played APB reloaded every now and then with my friend just to mess around. Yeah things can be frustrating when you are starting the game at this point hitting rank 28 or something and you go up against people that are rank 100+ that have the in game cash to buy all the best weapons and mods and all that. I think the match up system needs to be overhauled a bit and I to dislike the expiration date on weapons, though to be fair it does keep the player active if they wish to keep the same weapon so they can get it again when their timer runs out.

It's a great game to mess around in with a friend running the missions as long as you don't take it too seriously. Something that would add a bit of flavor to the game would be PvE missions. I know it's a PvP game but when you are waiting around for missions and all that it can be a bit boring just running around. I think if they were to add a PvE aspect it would make the game much more immersive and complete.
