OK the title of this article is a bit misleading...I thought you were leaving Fallen earth altogether heh.

I am planning on returning to Fallen Earth soon myself, just to see how the changes so far. Have they done the combat upgrade they were talking about yet?

@Ryukan

it went live with this patch.

the new system isn't structurally "bad" per say, but how the implemented it is. all combat systems got a pretty decent reduction in output and functionality, but the game needed that (being able to virtually one shot blade dancers with my toxic mine event pick axe of death was a little OP).

but then at the same time the developers saw fit to more than double the HP of EVERYTHING!!!!

now what do you think happens you nerf damage output AND raise the HP of mobs? I went from 2-3 shots from my trusty simple sword taking down most everything level appropriate to me, somewhere around 49 dmg per swing, to more like 10-11 thawacks!

I was doing like 16 damage ...

I managed to get my dmg back up to somewhere around what it was pre-patch (29 - 39 dmg per swing) by throwing every skill point I could into strength, coordination, Melee, and power ... and I mean everything (my first aid is sitting at 6). at level 10 I'm still looking at 7-8 hits (as in head shots) to bring down something lvl 5-8, I went back to the farm just for shits and giggles and it's taking me 5-6 hits to take down a blade dancer cutter.

it's not such a big deal until another 1-4 mobs decide to aggro you and it takes 10-15 seconds to kill each one while the rest of them stab you in the ass / shoot you in the face. and that's for a melee build, ranged players have got a whole 'nother world of problems: things that took 2-3 shot to bring down pre-patch are now taking 2 - 3 clips.

help chat was blowing up last night: people started calling it "Gimped Earth", comments to the effect of "so when they gonna give us REAL bullets, these non-lethal rounds aint cutting it" were flying all over the place, and I had to spit my cereal when some one made the joke "I sure do hope I can find a box of damage out in the wasteland, I seem to have lost mine ..."

New patch is a disaster. Takes at least 3 times as long to kill an even level mob. Game is not any harder just much more dull. Plus for ranged users you now get to spend a quarter of you play time farming materials to make the 300% more bullets you use to kill a mob.

Total clusterf&*k. Cancelled my subscription along with a lot of other folks.

Ugh, was going to rush to resub but then red this article's comments, NO THANKS. Also for some reason I had it in my head that progress towns were going to be PVE, not PVP, I must have read it wrong at some point. So basically this patch raised the level limit, added nothing new to do once we hit the new cap except pvp and pvp progress towns and made fights slow and dull. Major step in the wrong direction, guess I'll hold off longer and see if they get it right someday.

@Drachenfel

there is supposed to be a shit pot of new PvE missions in the new zone, and everything I have read about the towns sounds like PvE .... but it also sounds really complicated so I could be getting things wrong.

I never post in forums: I would rather spend my limited time playing. I say this to indicate how much of an impact FE has had on me. I absolutely love this game, it combines the FPS style of Call of Duty with the wasteland feel and third-person format of Fallout and the immersiveness MMO style of WoW or EQ. This IS the game I have been searching for since leaving WoW two years ago - I subbed two days into trial!

So, as a ranged player, I have to say how much I agree with some of the previous posters. My rifle has a hefty melee debuff so I have to know I can take down a mob before it gets to me. Pre-patch it was do-able and worked well. NOW, I am kiting mobs that are lower levels than me. Could not go in any runs like the mines. And I have wasted so much ammo trying to take down wilderness mobs that I cannot replenish.

One poster said the new update wasnt bad per se - I am not so sure. Pre-patch you had to have a rifle skill of 60 to fire a Rimfire rifle. In other words you had to be a dedicated rifleman to use a Rimfire for example. Now, you just need to be level 10+. It has taken the skill-based speciality of this game and trashed it. In addition, my main focus pre-patch was on headshots. Now it seems to be 'whack-a-mole' type buffs, abilities (I would call them 'spells') and kiting. Only one thing left out - might as well add tab-auto-attack.

Anyway, enough ranting. I will stay subbed for now and watch the forums to see if some of these changes are fixed. If not...then it is a fond farewell to FE.
