how is this game going? healthy in numbers? I'm just curious to see how other big mmos are doing, I played the beta but did not have the time to play the full game. I enjoyed what I saw of it.

@xuiton

The game is doing exceptionally well for a new MMO, and still growing in subscriptions due to an extremely aggressive marketing campaign and a recently introduced trial system.

They also introduced free character transfers, which made my servers population ridiculously high, but you can transfer every 7 days until you find the server you like.

Overall I am really impressed with the dev team on Rift, they are extremely responsive to player issues, crank out content at an alarming rate, and are overall the most customer focused team out of all the games I have played.

@enamelizer lol in your dreams, the game is tanking faster than expected.

TRION hasnt revealed any official numbers, ever. that alone is strike 1 for a game that boasts to be "successful" and "gaining subs" yet they reject putting a number where their mouth is. specially after the server merge debacle...

The server merge debacle started barely 2 months after release, and only after half the community started grabbing the pitchforks, otherwise Trion would have ignored players in low pop servers and rather
strike 2

and then, we can see the insane, disproportionate amount of "trial" servers that Trion will keep...if that isnt a tacit acknowledgement of "we have a shit ton of unused hardware because our expectatives were awfully optimistic, but we dont want to deal with the bad PR", I dont know what it is.
strike 3

@Fabius Bile I meant to say

"otherwise Trion would have ignored players in low pop servers and rather let people rot in dead servers than dealing with the bad PR"

The reason for server mergers is because at launch they underestimated the crowds that attempted to play, so Trion added Many servers to stop the whining (no doubt from trolls like you) and prevent long queues... so after the 1st month when things quieted down to normal player login the extra servers left many players on a low population server.
Then Trion offers FREE transfers for those players, but somehow, like some Mid East dictator you take it as a sign of weakness and attack... rather than see it for what it is, a service to those who were stranded by a huge launch day scramble.

Players like you will always find something to attack, I'm guessing it's cause your life sucks... too bad man.

sooo...your saying that Rift has lost a huge amount of people from release till now?
But most Rift apologetic braindead fanbois swear to god the game has been gaining subs nonstop

so, what it is? I hink the huge amount of dead servers and similar amount of barely-alive ones are a testimony that the braindead fanbois are sorely mistaken.
oh wow, shocking revelations

btw, what you refer to is a well known phenomenom called "MMO tourism", people that check on the new kid on the block just out of curiosity but usually go back to the MMO they were previously playing.

the "tourism" effect usually ends by the first month.

Rift however has seen the population on their servers shrinking month after month SINCE RELEASE TILL NOW, as everyone can see in the server trends sites.

so no, fanboi, its not "tourists" and it didnt hit a plateau after the first month.

The game has been losing subs steady and its STILL losing subs as we speak, because its a bland and unoriginal raid-or-die WoW wannabe.

Can you Read?!
I explained that they opened TOO MANY servers in a knee-jerk reaction to those who could not log on at launch day... either you are blind or see what you want to see... in either case you are an idiot.

I made it to two months. Actually the servers look high, because the cap is soooo low. They probably made it so, due to the very very small game real estate. the server i played, med to high, was a bit like a ghost town. 80% of my friend list was gray after the first month :D

What does a firesale via Steaming Pile tell you about the game only a few monthes after release.

When the game is cheaper than the sub you know something is up. F2P cash shop comming soon maybe ?

It's a Steam sale, everywhere else you purchase it has it at its normal price. It's just part of Steam's summer sale that's been going on all week.

@winterborn I never understood the hatred Steam gets from some folks. Do people hate cheap games and convenience of not having to go to stores (and for those of us in some countries, the only way we can get half these games to begin with)

Steam is Nazi DRM software swallowed by those who put price and convenience before principal.

If you like it then have fun and if it is the only way for you to get games then well its the only way. There is good reason to hate steaming pile and those reasons are easy to find and understand.

I prefer to support my local economy and I actualy OWN my games. I will gladly get off my ass and spend a few more bucks to support DRM free software.

Lets hope you dont get hacked, banned and loose all the games you paid for.
