Hot on the heels of today's announcement that EVE Online will soon be making its way to Japanese gamers, CCP released a new trailer for the Incarna expansion. Rather than focusing only on in-game action, the new trailer entitled "I was there" tells the tale of a memorable battle from the perspective of a player. Although the dialogue is pretty corny, the story and feeling behind it are things any player involved in gang or fleet warfare can identify with. We all carry stories of the epic fights we've turned around in our favour, and we all like to remember that we were there.
The trailer highlights the very real rush of fleet warfare, the real bonds we form with the players behind the ships and the communities we build and defend together. That sense of community is even extended outward into the real world, as attendees at the annual Fanfest or any one of several unofficial EVE meet-ups find out every year.
At the 2011 EVE Fanfest in March, CCP and EVE players in attendance raised $11,000 US for charity Get Well Gamers. Notable items sold included the official CCP Banhammer from the GM department, as seen in the company's absolutely not safe for work music video HTFU, and a tour of the CCP offices led by CEO Hilmar Pétursson. CCP Soundwave's impromptu art print auction raised a massive $1,500, bringing total donations up to the $11,000 mark. The money was delivered to Get Well Gamers this week and will go to help buy gaming systems for sick children to play during their stays in hospital.

Yeah. Very corny but also pretty damn cool. But WTF??? What's with the size ratio of his Interceptor to him, and the height of the ship over the dock??
My character has to look so far up to the ceiling that his neck hurts.
I call shenanigans.

Cool trailer as always, and this time it's something that can actually happen to you pretty easily. Although the presentation will be a lot less....impressive.

It's quite obviously made for their new Japanese market. The dialogue probably works better in Japanese than English - it's quite similar to the dialogue in anime, which sounds very cheesy in English.

Actually... I didn't think the dialogue was very cheesy at all. Maybe not PERFECT, but not really groan-worthy either. I played Eve for one hour and got crushed by the learning curve, but this makes me want to give it another shot.

@epilepticemu It's not that bad just do the tutorial missions and if you cant figure something out (like the probe tutorials) go on youtube.
Do some basic missions before you get all pvp-ish and you'll be fine. Space isn't nearly as dangerous as many people make it out to be.

@epilepticemu If the idea of being part of gang or fleet PvP with meaning is enough to get you to give EVE another try, I would suggest getting into a good newbie-centric PvP corp like EVE University, Dreddit (the reddit corp) or a similar corp. Once you're in a good corp, the learning curve can almost vanish overnight. Most of them will give you free ships to PvP in and new players have very little to risk in PvP. The rifter in particular is a popular newbie PvP ship, and it's an absolute monster if it's fit and flown well.

LOL kinda cool, kinda cheesy. I hope somebody makes a real EVE experience parody of this like they did with the last trailer (adding in real FC talk instead of the "ideal" CCP FC talk). EVE's awesome, but to anybody watching this, it's NOT like this! ...not yet at least, but god willing it might one day.

Only thing missing from the trailer was the FC calling targets. It's pretty much like that, I have to wonder if you've ever left high-sec at all.

I'm never a fan of real live people in video game trailers, but I thought that was pretty well done.
And I'd hate to beat this dead horse, but how funny would it have been if he was wearing a monocle?
They probably filmed this quite a while ago, but I still think that would be worth a nice little chuckle at the very least.

I was rooting for the team with the ambush. They had a much better plan.

I was there... when Incarna started stuttering and becoming unresponsive every bloody time weapons fire began. I remember... back in Incursion, oh so recently when this DIDN'T happen. Yes... I was there... when Incarna broke Eve for me.

a great idea for a trailer, but it would have been better if they used an actual player with a real story rather some model/actor reciting a memorized script.
oh wait. then it would sound like what Wiz said, nvm.
