Enmity, hate, threat, or whatever term you prefer is a big part of combat in any MMO. It's the principle around which the concept of a tank is based, the idea that you can have one person responsible for drawing the attention of monsters. And in Final Fantasy XIV, the process of holding that enmity was complex, lacked an indicator, and was generally difficult to gauge. As part of patch 1.18's major battle system overhaul, the functions of enmity are being changed, streamlined, and improved to make tanking more straightforward for all players.
Monsters will be gaining a new indicator for enmity, allowing each player to effectively judge whether or not to hold back on attacking based on enmity. Similarly, the process of accumulating, holding, and dispelling enmity will be significantly streamlined. Final Fantasy XIV players fond of taking on the tanking role will want to take a look at the breakdown, which promises to make threat that much easier to hold on to.

Can any players out there recommend me which server I should join that has a good US population?

I think its going to be tough to find many people willing to give anything but a negative response. Most people (whether or not they've actually played the game) have a negative impression of the game based off of beta/launch and it will take a long time for SE to overcome that, if they ever will be able to.
Like I posted below Besaid is one of the top 2 or 3 populated servers. If I recall correctly there aren't any specifically US servers, all the servers are open to everyone.

Try Lindblum. It has some of the bigger guilds like The Star Onions.

Whenever I see a feature streamlined and improved, it usually means that the game is playing itself more. I'm sure this is something the playerbase has been asking for, so kudos to them. Pretty soon players will be able to just watch the screen.

@Palebane Not knowing if you are pulling a monster off someone is a big deal in some games where monsters could 1-2 shot you. It makes for less wipes and less angry people either playing the tank for ebing a fail or playing the DPS for pushing too hard.

These are all bandaid fixes, if you look at the world design, the guildleve system you can see the limited of how much they can actually fix. Their actually trying to completely remake a game on the existing chasis. The only reason for this is the PS3 reason, and a attempt to keep face. I'm not sure they deserve it though. This game is a disaster, and the only way SE and other companies will learn, is if it hurts their wallets.

@(Unverified) Bandaid fixes are considered to add fixes onto certain things. Changing the whole battle system (removign the stamina guage, adding auto attack, changing how hate works, etc) isn't a bandaid fix.
I can agree with you on the other subjects, though.

@Ink Six I've seen Besaid posted many times as one of the more populated servers. Also the unofficial rp server.
I'm re installing the game now to give it another go. The changes coming over this summer sound fantastic.

Dear SE,
Here is a better idea. Fix the very same mechanics in FFXI, which despite it's flaws, is STILL the better game compared to 14. The job diversity in 14 sucks and feels watered down, and the game as a whole was a step forward only in graphical fidelity, and nothing else. And even then, you reused countless armor models from FFXI, and not even many of the good ones.

They shouldn't have EVER started with this "also available for the PS3" shit.
Any MMO slated to release on a console is an automatic flop.
MMORPG = PC = PC UI, controls and all of that jazz.

I have to agree. mmorpg.com has an article up arguing that consoles will be the future of mmorpgs, but I haven't seen any evidence of that so far. I think DCU could have been a huge console game if it had been b2p+issues/dlc/expansions, and they had gotten over their desire to promote the ps3 and instead promoted the game on all 3 consoles.
Still when developing an mmo devs need to focus on one platform or the other. If you want to make a console mmo then stick to consoles, don't make some half-shod mess to present to pc players just to make a few extra bucks. In the end this greedy grasp just makes your company/game look bad and wards players away.

@Graill440
Exactly, so why spend the time making a shoddy port for pc players? FFXIV and DCU should have just been b2p console games. This would have avoided the flack they got from pc players, and dlc packages would have gone over much better with console players than subs.
While FFXIV was a mess, there is absolutely no excuse for DCUO falling so hard. Cutting out the pretense of a pc port would have saved time and money, make the game b2p and work out a comic that follows the continuing story line of the game as well as some merchandise. Then sale dlc packs called "issues" that had story lines that corresponded with the events in the special DCUO comic line. This would have appealed to the much larger console market, as well as appealing to comic/collectibles enthusiasts. DC and Sony both blew it big time which is why both companies remain second tier companies.
