The upcoming launch of Season 4 brings with it a host of changes for Star Trek Online, but as always seems to be the case, players have more features still that they'd like to see in place. The newest Ask Cryptic has just recently been posted, and it answers the many requests for new features that players have clamored for. Better yet, many of those changes are incoming, albeit not quite as soon as players would hope.
Improvements to melee combat, for example, are not in Season 4 right out of the gate. However, the revisions to ground combat make for a perfect time to start implementing more and better melee weapons, with the development team starting in on the process of addressing the core melee issues. Similarly, new hairstyles are being tested with costumes, with the team still working on new arrangements that are visually pleasing for players -- but the new styles are in the works. Star Trek Online players are encouraged to look at the full post and start looking forward to both Season 4 and what's coming after. (And checking out this week's Captain's Log on the topic might not be remiss, either.)

Started playing the game recently and while it's not perfect by any means, I really appreciate the dev communication that I've seen so far. Goes a long way in my book.

"...we have the core R&D team investigating whether we can collapse all the sector maps into one giant uber galaxy map. If we do that, then it is [just] a matter of adding or expanding more locations to the one sector. This could be a Season 5 feature if the tech works out properly."

With launching Season 4, the entire team is focused on adding new content over the months ahead that will utilize all the new cool features and combat updates in this release. We are currently in development on the following content: Featured Episode Series 4 which will take place around Deep Space 9, Special Task Force updates to improve and balance these missions into something fun and/or challenging to play, Borg Invasion Events which will include a weekly ground assault on a to be announced species homeworld as well as hourly Borg Deep Space incursions into all sectors, new locale flavored neighborhood missions for social zones, OpenPVP Encounters, and four new Fleet Actions (1 exclusive ground and space FA for each faction). So yes. We absolutely plan to release some great new content to show off the new combat updates in Season 4. All of this content is currently scheduled to release at various stages in Season 4 between now and October.
Here is all my worldly possesions. Please take them as payment for this and give me this stuff NOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOW!!!!

You gotta love people who 18 months after the game was released still defends a game with incomplete KDF (making pvp a joke), no endgame at all (a few random 5man missions offering nothing for larger fleets does not make an endgame), got a crafting system that is better than at launch is still horrible, got zero sense of true star trek exploration (randomly generated crap missions doesn´t make for exploration) and that butchers star trek lore while charging not only 15 dollars per month but also has a store with ships for sale..

I can't defend them, I can only hope that the developers do something that gives STO a bit of new life. Having gotten a lifetime sub and getting burned by Cryptic yet again with another shoddy product I can only hope they make some hard decisions about what they can and cannot do and stop beating around the bush.

...ships which function exactly as all the other ships do. Plus, your description of the current endgame is so far off, it's in another galaxy.

imo STO is awesome.. I am not a big Trek fan (I do like it though), I'll watch a show from time to time..
But I think this game is great.. It started off a little rough, but each update it just keeps getting better and better.. not one step backwards for Cryptic..
Can't wait for Season 4 to hit live.. oooo.. and looking forward to Season 5 now too.. :)..
Star Trek Online Rocks.. !!

I picked up STO a couple of weeks ago when it was on weekend sale on Steam and I admit I enjoyed my month.
But beyond that, the game offered little incentive to make me stay.
Once you reach "the endgame" you have ssen it all.
Space combat (PvE) was very, err, "uniform". Fly a cruiser ? Keep your enemy on your side und hit it with a broadside of beams. Fly an escort ? Keep your enemy in front of you and hit it with your cannons. Rinse & repeat till level 51. (Also, too much combat for Star Trek, at least Federation side)
Ground combat (PvE) past level 20 was either trivial (on normal difficulty) or unbalanced (on the higher difficulties) to the point of being unfair.
The features episodes (their "seasons" I believe) were nice, but there were only three of them and once you go Klingon (who have almost no unique content) you run those all day long to level. And when you play the same mission for the 40th time, you're going to start to hate it :(

@Ogged Have you tried the foundry missions? That was brought me back to STO and I have to say it's the main killer feature that everyone overlooks. Sure there are a lot of crap farming missions people have designed (use the rating filter), but there are tons of missions frankly superior to what Cryptic puts out. Plus, because its crowdsourced, new ones are coming online faster than Cryptic (or any dev really) could do alone. It might end up with STO actually having the most content of any game at some point.
And for Klingons, the foundry missions are really filling-out the lack -- one person even put out a quite good series of missions for Klingons that adapt every Shakespeare play (Othello, Romeo&Juliet, MacBeth et. all really do lend themselves to Klingons).
