Cool location for a house with the trees like that. I'll be places like that will become highly contested at release. Also does anybody know if you can hire npc's to help run shops/guard your place when offline?

I think only certain locations are designated as housing areas- they wouldn't let you plant one in the starting zone.

Plus, other players cannot destroy houses or player-created buildings, from what i've read; they can only raze crops and things like that.

Thanks for the info. I was under the impression that even your home could be destroyed. That's good to know. I imagine launch will be big with land speculators rushing out to lay claim to the sweetest spots.

No problem!

Yes, during the beta phase, a lot of people would rush to claim many of the island territories as housing areas. (I think there may be some videos of some of this too)

The player-created aspects of the game seem very exciting, based on what ive read.

"Meadows" sounds nice and pastoral, but this looks a little boring. In a fantasy world, there is no limit. Why would you want to see the same old European architecture and the same old pine trees.

European models/textures worked for RIFT so far. :p

But seriously, it's not only about how stuff looks, it's about what's IN the game to do and experience.

I would say that the looks of this game are considered exotic in South Korea where it is being developed.

Ah...if this was only set on Mars or on some parallel steam-punk world or something totally different...

...maybe I can build a rocket-ship in ArcheAge? Well, one can hope! :P

@Space Cobra Funny you say Mars, because there's another MMO based on CryENGINE 2 that is Sci-Fi: Entropia Universe!

Unfortunately, it's crap.

Yeah, I was hoping Rift would have a lot of the things like the housing, open exploration, ships.. you know, kind of next gen features Rift said it would have. I didnt see any next gen things in there, just WoW/Warhammer stuff.

Anyways, I hope that this game can give me more to do than just raid or kill 10 bugglebugs to help Farmer John as story.

Trion never said that Rift would have ships, open exploration or housing (at least at release). It seems to me you deluded yourself.
They always marketed the game as a theme-park with two twists: the soul system and the rift system.

First grats.. 1 point for reading into things.

I never said Rift promised houses or anything. I said I HOPED that they would have that stuff in there as 'next gen' features, but they did not. They didn't do anything as next gen except a rift which you get bored of by level 50.

In fact, Rift has almost nothing in the way of normal features like housing, ships, pets, fishing, extensive crafting, etc.. Nothing.

You get a nice reputation currency grind, but that's not really next gen, is it?
