Cue the vintage Van Halen (not to mention your Age of Conan launcher), as it's a big day for everyone's favorite barbarian-flavored MMO. Why's that? Well, there's the small matter of free-to-play, and oh yeah, 2.6 is the most significant patch since the Rise of the Godslayer expansion in May of 2010.
What's the big deal? Well, you've got your item shop as well as your free and premium membership tiers. You've also got new appearance tab functionality (or vanity armor, as Funcom's patch notes are fond of calling it). Still want more? How about relaxed difficulty and more frequent rewards on normal-mode 6-man Khitai dungeon content as well a significant price cut on factional armor pieces (epic chest-piece purples are now a mere 16 gold, for example).
More still? By Crom, you are one needy barbarian. You're also in luck, as Funcom has added a new queue function to minigame PvP which resurrects the late, great pre-made vs. pre-made option. Oh, and before we forget, here are a couple of new level-scaling solo dungeons (The Breach and Forgotten City), the better to see your character from his 40s all the way up to 80 should you desire. Finally, there's a laundry list of combat- and quest-related tweaks, all of which are viewable via the patch notes on the o-boards.

The content list alone is enough to get me to resub... something to do with all these funcom points? even better.

Three years after launch and the game still only has one starting area for everyone.. Tortage I hate you so much :(

@Verus I dont know but wasn't there something about being able to skip Tortage once you have played through it for one time at least? I'm not sure though.

Know what sucks? Their sign up form. There's no way to easily differentiate whether you're signing up for the EU or NA servers

Where can I get the client? I'm a former subscriber, and on my AoC account page it says "Please click the link below to start the Download Manager" - but there's no link!

My god the GM's were going crazy last night..I honestly think they had every Funcom employee there just to keep trolls out of chat. I have to hand it to them for actually trying to clean up the community.

Installing right now, it appears I can just reuse my existing account that I haven't played since 2009? Good enough for me, I can give my old Priest a spin to see if I get hooked.

Well my interest in this went out the window just as soon as I tried to enter the Khitai zones and was hit with a message that I didn't have access. Despite having purchased the expansion back when it launched, apparently the only way into Khitai is to either subscribe or buy 7-day duration passes.
Here I was hoping it'd be a little closer to LOTRO, where if I bought the expansion itself I could still access the content I had. So much for that.

@Lucien
I agree; if you bought the Rise of the Godslayer expansion then you should sure as hell still have access to the content included in that expansion. Not necessarily to anything that's been added to those zones after RotG's launch, but definitely what was included at launch.
Has this topic come up on the Funcom forums, and if so what did the devs have to say about it?

@Lucien: Thanks for the heads up, I've already got 2 F2P games that let me play all the content I have purchased Eq2, and LotR. Conan devs just shot them selves in the foot with that stunt.

From what I read in the news about the F2P, Khitai should be available if you have purchased it in the past. That's odd, what do the official forums say about it?
