Of all my deaths in Asherons Call none were more painful than those administered by Pookie. Arthas? pfft easy compared to the old Pookster. Some nights corpses runs weren't even worth it, just go work off the death penalty on some olthois or tuskers and consider yourself lucky.

I was soloing on my Necro in Overthere just after Kunark came out. At about lvl 36 or so I decided I needed more money(who doesn't right!). And headed out to Mountains of Rathe to farm me some of the fabled Hill Giants. These guys dropped upwards of 40 plat per kill and at my lvl it would give XP too! How could I loose? The trip from Kunark took me about an hr. And once arriving in Rathe I ran into an odd mob, a Hippogriph of sorts. Ankhephenmut, the mob handily disbatched me and sent me back to my bind point in Overthere. The long naked run made me grumpy! =]

Indeed. Pre-Plains of Power Everquest was definitely the place for memorable deaths. Dieing deep in a dungeon, and having to ask for help to get your naked self to your corpse (not as a ghost, but as yourself without any gear), or to have a rogue stealth in and drag your corpse out so you can get your stuff; that was epic.

Running from Qeynos to Freeport at level 10 because a friend started a character there; begging for Spirit of the Wolf in Qeynos to boost my runspeed; taking 20 minutes just to get to Highpass, and almost making it to Highpass Hold to ask for a player to bind my soul there only to get smacked by a gnoll and waking up naked back in Qeynos. Then, making the run again, naked this time, getting to Highpass Hold, getting bound, getting my gear back, and making the mistake of leaving Highpass at night and learning for the first time how incredibly dangerous Kithicor Forest is at night when you're level 10. That trip to Freeport was the most epic adventure I've had in an mmo; ever.

The one death that ill never forget is from Omar the Unscarred in the Hellfire ramparts. This was back when wow TBC was still new me and my buddies had been running this place on heroic for ever and never had an issue, then one day pow. I being a cat druid was standing at my usual spot behind Omar when the usual thing happened he hit me with his Shadow Whip ability but what was different this time is i was thrown out of the dungeon. We all had a good laugh and still do to this day.

My most memorable death was on Omor as well funny enough. I was on my shadow priest and everyone else died and I was out of mana. I was resorting to wanding the boss and on the last shot, I died but managed to kill him. So it was a trading killing blows scenario, an awesome way to die. :P

In everquest 1 I played a paladin named Galaddriall. Our Job during a big boss take down was to cast Lay on Hands on the main tank and then die. Well We were on the plane of fear and had cleared it to Kazic Thule. I was a long fight and one of his abilities was he threw everyone around him away from him, seemed like halfway accrossed the Plane. My turn in the tank heal rotation came I used me macro that healed the tank and whispered the next pally he was up. Then got thrown away from KT. I was like wow I'm going to survive this one. Then KT Yelled "Galadriall!!!" And summoned me back to die at his feet. I had never been summoned by any mob in the game i was like WHOA WTF just happened? And I started putting it together i laughed so hard and spent the rest of the evening chuckling at my screenshot. Galadriall!!!

Corpse Runs in dungeons in UO were sometimes pretty crazy. I had a lot of fun trying to get back to my body before all my stuff went poof.

not mine, but my husband's

We had rolled new Blood Elf paladins exclusively to role play together. We were in the newbee zone doing the quest that has you climb to the top of the big tower over the lake to kill a named mob. Well, I was sort of impatient to get back and hand in the quest, so I jumped off the side into the lake... my husband didn't see where I went, so in-character I /yelled "DO A FLIP!" taking the hint he backed up, ran, and leaped off the edge.

and cratered on one of the walkways about half way down... "INTO THE WATER!"

Best corpse run EVER.

When my wife and I first started playing WoW many years ago, she and I had 2 night elves, her's a hunter and mine a warrior. We got into an altercation with the orcs at Stonewatch Keep and were getting the worst of it. We had to run down the rope bridge out of the keep, and I decided to jump off the side and land in the water below. This would have been brilliant had the water not been 6 inches deep. I cratered and my wife still brings this up to this day.

@(Unverified) Back when I first started playing on a PvP server in WoW, I used to haunt that zone as a Troll Rogue all day long. I was a regular in Redridge all the way until AQ opened.

we were in ulduar doing weekly raid quest and as we approach razerscale a guild member hops in my mecho hog and as the fight starts i jump off side of ulduar with him killing us both which in turn causes the guild to wipe because that person i killed or i couldnt finish the quest because we were dead before the fight started.

2 deaths stand out, in 2 different games, both after acquiring new spells I was itching to use, without yet fully understanding the potential ramifications...

In UO, I saw a dude in a dungeon losing a fight against a giant spider, and thought it would be a great time to bust out my shiny new Chain Lightning to help him out. Oops. And all the other players who happened to come around the corner just at that moment, obviously did not understand when I tried to explain.

"No, wait guys, I was trying to help him, funny thing, I...OOOOOooooooOOooooOOOOOOOOoooo..."

The other death was in EQ, on my Wizard. I had just dinged, spent all my cash on my new teleport spells, bamf! and I was across the continent! As I took a few steps to admire the view, I aggroed some surly creature, who delivered a beatdown.

Sigh. Oh well, corpse run I guess. Oh wait! I can just port right back to where my corpse is! Awesome!. Odd...can't seem to find that spell in my book...it was just there...oh...

I de-leveled. Crud.

Good times.

World of Warcraft, in the Shadow Labs, about to start clearing the second bosses room.
My mage gets stunned by one of the rogues, and on reflex, cause I play a pvp server, I blink, right into the first group of sitting mobs.
Its ok I think, ill just run forward and die and they will all reset, cause I was teh only one who aggroed em. Wrong.
I end up pulling another three groups, which kills me, and they then turn around and slaughter my group. We all had a good laugh about it.

EQ1.

Friend and I were leveling together in Highpass Hold. We decide to go do something in East Karana so we leave the zone. On zone in, she walks right off the ledge of the cliff leading down to the Karanas and craters some 200ft down below. Never laughed so hard.

She got me back when I fell off the cliff in the Overthere into Howling Stones though.

I'll never forget my first jump from the Temple of Storms in Stormpeaks in WoW. T'was a good death, albeit a self-inflicted one. :P
One of my most recent frustrations was when i had the brillian idea of fighting Faction's Shiro, from Guild Wars. Had to do it for a Zaishen quest that gave a lot of xp for the new "upgraded" Survivor title. Silly me, forgot he could kill my entire party in one shot if i didn't kill him fast enough. Was fun when he "Impossible Odd"ed my entire team.

I still feel slightly sick at the thought of my first podding in Eve.

Due to a communication breakdown with an inexperinced fleet commander, I found myself warping alone into a pirate camp at the Sarum Prime jump in point (Sarum Prime was low-sec in 2003, and when you jumped into a system you arrived at a spot in space rather than at a gate).

I didn't warp out.

Playing EQ1 on the SZ "No Rules" server, it was a Good vs Nuetral vs Evil 3 way that actually turned out to be more of an Evil faction PVE fest since everyone rolled evil.
Anyway I was the Good teams (lowest pop team) main cleric for a long time. Well many long stories short one night I was just over it, done. I bound myself right outside the bazzar where I could be attacked and went afk overnight after advertising free kills.
When I came back to see the carnage I went from max level to where you couldn't loose xp anymore and had bodies completely blanketing Shadowhaven.
They must have had fun knocking me around I had corpses in rooms halfway across the zone. It was quite awesome!

After grinding a Shadowknight to 60 (when it was the cap) and a Paladin to 49 - one day I recall roaming through the main city of Velious, full of wonderment and excitement (Because I had yet to explore the place on my Shadowknight, I wanted my Paladin to level up) and fell off a ledge.

I remember spawning in a graveyard some how an hour long walk from there, across high level and treacherous terrain to boot. I just... stopped play Everquest that day. It was extremely memorable because out of all the deaths I had ever had, it was the LEAST memorable.
