I'll be playing...

...my level 7 Guardian, since my two 80s are class-locked.

Woe is me.

@Dril Didn't they say that people who had subbed at any time before won't have their classes locked?

@Dril

You will be able to pick 2 classes to play for free, from which you CAN choose any pre-existing characters.

In other words, yes you can play your mains for free no matter the class.

@BigNastey

I was just complaining about the lack of a release date in last week's column. I didn't think it'd be this soon though, good times.

That's good news. The gameplay in AoC never really hooked me but I love the world. It'll be fun to explore a bit more without dropping coin.

Gonna have to download so may give it a week or two until their download servers aren't so loaded.

But definitely returning for this.

Actually the launcher is down for an 8-hour megapatch, and it looks like Unchained might be going live later this afternoon. I'm checking with Funcom and will update the article when we get official confirmation.

Tomorrow eh? Shame they took the whole bloody site down including the accounts page in preparation.

Means I can't even log in to download the client.

Well, that was quick.

Either they've been working behind the scenes on this for a long time, or it's going to be a terrible rush job.

@ZTZ

If I were to take a completely uneducated guess, I would say it has been in the works for awhile now. Also they have experience converting AO to F2P, so they already had a good idea of the pitfalls.

@enamelizer

Well I do love AO, but it's "conversion" if you want to call it that was rushed and ill-conceived.

To me this is coming far too soon and feels like it's a rushed idea and was only recently considered due to the movie tie-in.

Not the way to make a huge change IMO.

Well, I will definitely dust off the old copy and give it another go. Looking forward to trying out Blood and Glory. Hoping my old Macbook Pro can handle the updates to the graphics over the last couple of years.

Nice, maybe now I can get some of my friends to give it a try, too. Should they like it, it would be fun to return to Hyborea again. Hope, I can keep my Bear Shaman.

You know what this means now don't you? You will have to stream AoC for everyone to check out. If not I can do it for you guys if you want. It will just be later in the evening Pacific time zone. I could always just do it with justintv as well.

@Lateris

I've actually been meaning to do it for quite awhile now. A couple of months back I sat down with our streaming software and couldn't get it to work with my monitor setup. It's on my list of things to accomplish in service of the column very shortly.
