Good things often come in threes, and when it comes to The Secret World, scary things do as well. Funcom has just released a new monster information triple-pack for its horror-conspiracy MMORPG, and the official TSW website has the goods on the wendigo, the deep ones, and the ak'ab.
The wendigo are apparently descended from a tribe of humans who went cannibal, and Funcom's intro blurb cites their cursed metabolism and describes them as "more sickness than species." No less chilling are the deep ones, fearsome inhabitants of the Atlantic Ocean who are known to "drag victims into a death-dive until the unfortunates are crushed into more edible material." Finally we have the ak'ab, and Funcom's website quotes H.P. Lovecraft to help set the mood for describing these "cold, pale things of native myth" that do the nefarious bidding of sorcerers and necromancers.

I'm loving the locations, story and monsters. What I would really like to hear about , though is more about the combat and skills available.

Great, more artist renderings? Let me know when the game gets within 2 years of launch, in the meantime stop with artist renderings.

Whn I first glanced at that I went 'Hey it's a Licker from RE.' Now that it's a bad thing or anything but just something that my mind first noticed.

Yea.. I'm with Nerves.. I'd like to see some meat now. You've sold me on the concept, and while I'm not quite sure that you've finished up all the locations, and I'd like to get some theorycrafting time along with your skillwheel.

Is anyone leery after both Anarchy Online and AoC launched in such poor states? Granted, AoC had a great entry level experience, but after level 20 the game fell flat.

@Triskelion With this game I have to wonder how that will apply since it is not level based. But if we are talking about server stability and up time - ya I am. I am not worried about the design of the game or the game world. I know that will be really good along with the art work. I am sure there will be bugs but its the over all design of the game that interests me. I mean I am sure there will be kill ten rats and so forth, its the skill system I am really into. And I have to admit since AoC I can handle slow combat.

How do you know it has good combat? I haven't read anything about player experiences yet.

Third time's the charm. I think that Funcom learned a lot from the AO and AoC launches. AoC had a pretty smooth technical launch, but the content dropped off after you left Tortage. Funcom definitely picked up on that fact and has already stated that all the content in TSW will be fully voiced and thought out just like the Tortage content was. I'm pretty optimistic. The launch certainly won't be perfect (none of them are...even Rift had huge queues on some servers for the first few weeks), but I think it will be Good(tm).

The upside is AO was a brand new engine and AoC was a brand new engine.
TSW engine is now being tested and is working on the AoC servers, so the technical part of the issues should be resolved, the server technology they are going to use idem also going to be running in AoC before TSW comes out.
So there should be a beter stability out there, also it's a different game director AO and AoC launch had the same person on the wheel, the new person in charge says that mmo's like rift well define how a game launch should be like.
Good to see Lovecraft appearing, as for those wanting gameplay videos. There's a 30min on in parts on gametrailers from GDC this year.

I'll be very happy if TSW has a horror feel to it. I would love a good horror game, especially one not set in a fantasy world of the past.
