As to the quests, I really liked the stunty quest line for the Greenskins. Loads of fun stuffing dorf's in barrels, then tossing them down the hill. I really liked the Greenskin starting area.

You might want to spend your first 10 renown points in Strength. (I think it's called, Might on the list.) Another good choice is weapon skill. One ends up respeccing their renown points as they level to make up for gaps in gear or try different play styles.

I played WH at beta and release. Quit about 6 months later, because it was just unplayable, my guild disbanded and so on.

I returned yesterday because... the other MMOs out there just don't appeal me any more. No WoW (played for some years, got bored by the dumbification it got), no because they are totally pay to win or obsolete or their makers pulled some stupid stunt (I am playing EvE Online, you all know what happened with their RMT).

So, I told myself: "why not using the Warhammer free forever trial or the 2 weeks free returning player offer?"

It changed, it changed indeed! It's much better, if only it had been like that at release it'd still have 200k players or more.

Anyway, you will find how low level is quite dumb, wait to get some specialization skills / spells and it improves a lot. Some classes remain quite straightforward to play (mages) but others ("rogues") get loads of options.

Since Mythic have their head way too high into their butt to advertise the MMO, I invite bored people reading this website to try the forever free trial and give WH a chance. In a sea of boring copycats, it's a fluid, action, somehow diverse, no brainer MMO.

@Vahrokh even if it were like this at release the game would have imploded just the same.

it still suffers from the 2 main issues it has had since release. class balance and realm balance...more specifically, the hilarious and complete lack of both.

the RvR system since 1.4 isnt anything stellar either, and the PvE keeps being craptastic (you can excuse this somehow since its a pvp game).

one way or the other, the problems with this game have been running skin deep since day one, and Mythic never showed interest in fixing them, less now they probably have 3 people total still working actively on the game...

@Fabius Bile Oh I know WH has its many issues. However I have played many MMOs and seen that smaller producers just cannot afford or deliver the amount of polish you see in the big titles. Nor they can afford the great game designers or the top developers.
WH (and DAoC) have some things that set them apart from the plethora of F2P or WoW clones around, it'd be a pity to see it go under.

As for the classes imbalances, I don't think they wanted to make classes balanced at all and I approve of it. Sure, some important MMOs put huge attention making perfect mirror classes but WH is made for multiplayer warbands where the single classes differences are far less noticeable.

Example, I play a Sorceress (and DoK and also played a tank). It's not identical to its mirror class but somewhat complimentary in its philosophy. Furthermore I learned to accept it's fine that I am just a free kill when alone. In other games (ie WoW) my mage was given a lot more survival options, but the end result is to have "all doing" classes, which WH is not about.

Finally, back at my time I was in a top server guild (NC on Eltharion) and we battled against our Order counterparts and it was big fun and none of us or them found imbalances or injustices or whatever.

You can say whatever you want about WAR but in terms of looks no other game made better looking Orcs and Dwarfs.

Totally agreed. The only game that comes close to making such awesome orcs is Allods, but, well, it's Allods. *sigh*

Hm. I admit I'm tempted to give this another shot. I tried it a few years back, when it had a more traditional 2-week trial. I love the universe and I friggin LOVE the art style. But it didn't quite grab me back then. Of course, I was a lot more averse to PvP than I am today, which probably had a lot to do with it since the RvR is one of WAR's biggest selling points.

But on the other hand I'm having a lot of fun in LotRO and RIFT so I'll probably stick with those. (Translation: I'll resist valiantly for about 15 minutes before I give in and sign up for a new account.)

All righty I will do my best to give some choppa tips.
So at the moment I am writing this path of the wrecka is leading that is the aoe spec for choppa which means you want to be grouped as much as possible. Imo aoe is terrible for leveling because your damage is bad therefore you cant really kill anything with your aoe so its just fluff dps. Choppa is an entirely group dependent class in lower tiers your a bit better solo but in a group is where they really shine. Being possibly the most squishy mdps when berserk means you need a tank and a healer to allow you to reach your full potential. You can use this builder to plot out your spec http://builder.arsenalofwar.com/CareerBuilder.aspx?Class=CHP
Also its important to remember especially in t1 that if you run in first you will die first let that black orc or chosen with the shield on run in ahead of you and beeline for the clothies. Your primary targets should be the squishy rdps and mdps until you get to a high enough rank to solo burn down a healer (around 10 in t1 and you can probably do this). Don't make the number 1 noob mistake and beat on tanks I see it all the time 4 mdps run up and beat on a chosen or a kotbs for the whole time well the other team runs around them and eats up their squishys. In addition try to assist you may have the most amazing dps in the game but if you can just get 1 more choppa to attack the same thing as you you suddenly are putting out twice as much damage. In the middle of your renown rank bar there is a button that says assist the main assist you can use this to auto target the person who is designated as your party/wb/scgroups main assist if you can learn to effectively use this you are 100x times ahead of most dps in WAR. As far as renown training goes spec for strength for your first 10 points as that will give you a huge buff in dps and then its your choice as to if you want to go for some parry or more strength. Melee crit is to expensive to spec for early on. Also you need to decide if you want to do 2 hander or dual wield. I highly recomend dual wield because you get faster AA's and a bonus 10% parry where as 2 hander is slower but heavier AA's and a 10% block strikethrough chance its mostly personal preference though. Also try to talisman up your gear it really helps they dont have to be +17 purps but you can fairly easily get +9's and +10's try to stack str as a primary and ws as a secondary until you get to higher rrs when you will only want to stack ws. If you have trouble getting groups in tier 1 just ask in region say something like " Choppa lf pocket healer or tank " Be respectful and most people will be happy to guard/heal you also feel free to just send people tells asking if they want to heal you it works a lot ot the time ( default command to type in region is /1 some people dont know that ). Finding some friendly healers and tanks and friending them will make everything much better. I got a level 10 dok I can pull out of the closet to heal you with sometime maybe. Anyways as far as rotation goes for aoe its pretty simple 1 ability lotsa choppin just keep spamming that for single target its just spam slasha and throw on your dot. Overall though just try to have fun don't get down if your side is out numbered and try to make the best of the against all odds bonus which gives you more exp rps and inf for kills when you are outnumbered.

Hmph sorry for the wall of text.

@tsavonglah @tsavonglah No worries about the wall of text, it's more information than I had previously been able to find. And hey, those RR points are going to be way more useful spent than just sitting around. I'm thinking Strength followed closely by Weapon Skill, from what I understand of the stats.

I'm currently dual wielding, as is my natural inclination, and planned to continue doing so unless I was given a convincing reason not to. Good to know I should keep it up!

@Eliot Lefebvre

I didn't read tsavonglahs post because bloody hell the formatting makes my eyes hurt so you'll pardon me if he already covered this.

Choppas greatly benefit from heavy WS builds in the mid-to-late game. Armor is the most stacked defensive stat in the game and choppas lack a native armor debuff. So full RR and gem for WS first with STR as a secondary concern especially in Tier 3 and above. Parry is also a good RR point sink since high WS and duel wielding both provide hefty bonuses to parry.

I also hope Savage spec gets more votes, it's hands down the most versatile and survivable spec choppas get with damage only slightly behind the 2-hander spec. I can't help but think you'll come to regret using the AoE spec.

Also also, a witch elf or witch hunter is a great alt if one particular side is totally dominating Tier 2 or Tier 3. So many people have difficulty dealing with stealthers even when they're surrounded by 10 allies. DPS healers are also great soloers, especially archmages, disciples, and warrior priests.

Ah yes just remembered also addons very very useful. As far as some basic ones go Dammaz kron is a nice addon for recording your lifetime kill stats http://war.curse.com/downloads/war-addons/details/dammazkron.aspx
I like target ring to see that pesky escaping healer http://war.curse.com/downloads/war-addons/details/targetrings.aspx
And libslash is needed to make lots of addons work http://war.curse.com/downloads/war-addons/details/libslash.aspx
There are many many more useful ones I just can't think of them off the top of my head you can find most of them here I can only put 3 links In -.- so just its just the main section of the website I linked above. Good luck in game!

Theres really no point in doing pve quests or public quests. The whole game boils down to RR, meaning PVP > all. If you dont like PVP WAR isnt for you. If youre just bored and want to mess around then questing will give you something different to do, but really its useless. Crafting on the other hand is useful. Id say WAR is a game where crafting is more important then questing. But to make it short the game boils down to pvp in the orvr lakes and scenarios. If you make it to t4 scenarios are much more enjoyable with a premade.
