If you're anything like the folks here at Massively, it's hard for you to figure out the right outfit to wear for gaming. Sweats? Too pathetic. Suit and tie? Too formal. Boxers or briefs? We don't want to know. Fortunately, Heatwave Interactive has come to the rescue with the definitive gaming accoutrement for Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising players: a $220 replica of a Roman Centurion Helmet.
This "fully wearable" helmet is now available for pre-order on Amazon, although you'll have to be quick and lucky to get one, as there are only 200 available. It's described as having "a pronounced red plume and is made of heavy gauge high carbon steel complete with brass accents and fittings."
No mention is made as to whether this would be useful in a real-life battle or not, so buyer beware if you're purchasing this in the hopes that it will protect you the next time you jump into your time machine and go back to the second century.
Gods & Heroes launched last week, and Massively has you covered on all the details. Except your head. We do not cover your head.

That doesn't look like a centurions helmet, more like a legate or something (common soldiers didn't have fixed crests as they didn't wear them in battle). Centurions normally had the crest going ear-to-ear. Centurions were only senior NCO's, they didn't get the really cool looking stuff.

@(Unverified) Well y'see, us silly Amuricans (and other people too probably) think that centurion sounds cool, and iconically Roman, whereas legate is more likely to make people go "Huh?"...

Have to say, it seems a bit optimistic for them to be bringing out such a high price tag piece of merchandise for a game that can't exactly boast of being amongst the most anticipated releases of this year. From everything I'm hearing, they have enough on their plate just getting people to buy into the product.
Mind you, I do love Roman things, but if I was going to buy a hat ,I wouldn't want the game name emblazoned across it.

You can buy the EXACT same helmet (minus the Gods & Heroes sticker) for $70 - 100 less from any number of web retailers.
Here's just one of them:

$220 for a helmet for brushing spiderwebs... Wonderful. Why do I have to pay to be a walking video game ad? We're not in Japan.

It's great having a contingency plan. Since they will most likely not have more than a handful subscribers, at least they can sell 200 overpriced helmets and get their investment in the game back.
