There's a new Fallen Earth dev blog in town, and it's so big that it requires the input of two devs. Producer Marie Croall outlines the game's upcoming development schedule and even drops a release date for the much-anticipated Alpha County/Progress Towns/combat changes patch. That date is July 6th, and Croall provides a recap for those of you who've forgotten about the fact that the update will raise the level cap to 55 and introduce new resources, gear, missions, and a town to fight over.
Croall also hints at upcoming changes to Fallen Earth's fast travel system, and she's quick to point out that the team isn't "dumbing anything down -- just putting emphasis on the features that drive the game." Speaking of features, we learned that a world event system is coming, as is faction territory control. It sounds as if the details haven't been ironed out just yet, as Croall doesn't offer any specifics. She also invites players to ask plenty of questions "so [they] can explore all angles together."
GamersFirst's Joseph "Linus" Willmon checks in to update players on the status of the PTS as well as the new monitoring tools that G1 is putting in place to isolate those pesky server performance issues. Finally, there's a quick blurb about skill and faction respec items that have been added to the Fallen Earth store. Catch up on all of this and more at the official Fallen Earth dev blog.

Alpha Country has nothing to do with their F2P right? The date for that is unreleased so far, correct?

Right, the F2P change is likely many months away. If they do an in-game cash shop like other F2P games, that's going to require some time to develop, not to mention all the decisions and development of what exactly is going into the cash shop. In the last devblog they said they're aiming for Q4, so late '11 or early '12.

Now that SWG is about to be out to pasture, and EVE is having...issues, I really look forward to seeing this game, along with Perpetuum, grow into something that will fill the sandbox void. I'm really happy about the inclusion of faction control, and while I'm usually skeptical of "dynamic" content, the new World Events sound like they will actually be a really good fit for this game. Add this to the fact that Perpetuum is adding the ability to tera-form, and it really helps to offset last week's depressing developments in the world of MMO sandboxes.

I'd like to point out that it -may- be a good time to start buying into this game. G1 has stated that players who owned the game prior to the F2P transition will get perks, and that players own the game AND have active memberships will get further perks on top of that.
with that said:
FE currently has got a promotion going on that if you buy the game from them (their online store) you will get a second copy free: both copies come with the 30 days of game time and some perk crap like a 4 wheeler and a hat. buy one and give the other to a friend, or just keep it for yourself for when the game goes F2P.
... hard to argue with having two accounts with the prior owner perks, if your the type who likes to hot-box multiple toons at the same time.
another option is to buy a physical copy on the cheap, that's what I did as soon as I heard about the F2P transition. $5 off of amazon for 30 days of game time and a disk pre-loaded with 90% of the game files (that could take a week to download on Icarus's snail ass download rate) was more than worth it to me.
apparently I wasn't the only one with this idea because the price for the Bloodsport box has risen dramatically to $8.99 since I got my copy (I paid something like $1.50 for the game and $4.00 for shipping), but the original release version is still out there and is a little bit cheaper.
Basic (original) box release: $2.88 + shipping.

Bloodsport version: $8.97 + a possible free shipping from a vendor with "fulfillment by amazon" tag (but you gotta spend over $25 on your total order to get it), or $4.99 + $3.99 from the next cheapest seller.

it's kinda slimy to do this, but if your really not interested in subbing till the game goes F2P you can always just float out your game time by signing up for the 30 day free trial before activating your box version, 60 days of game time for under $10 really aint that bad of a deal (you could even kinda milk it for longer if you take a break in between running out the trial and redeeming your serial number).
if you want to get really slimy you could also sign up for one trial account and focus on mastering the game while you play for the 30 days, then ditch that account after the time runs out and essentially respec a new character with a new 30 day trial account and burn through the early content with fewer fuck-ups now that you know how to play the game ... then redeem the serial number from the box version. if you take two weeks between each 30 day time sessions that's an easy 120 days of free game time and puts you right into the 4Q time slot for this F2P transition.
yes I realize that doing this is flashing a big old "fuck you" sign at the developers while they should be getting money to pay their bills, but I really don't like paying P2P fees and it's not like they wont being getting something tangible in return: the more experienced players they have when this game goes F2P, the more marketable it will be towards pulling in new players who are leery about signing up to a dead game.

Last I recall, FE doesn't allow multiple log-ins from the same computer. There are ways around it of course, but it still makes the two accounts thing less appetising.

that kinda sucks ... my rig can chew this game apart even on the highest setting, I was sort of liking the idea of having a dedicated crafter feeding a dedicated fighter who in turn would be feeding materials to the crafter.
combat in this game is complicated enough with one, no way was I thinking about trying to juggle it with two.

Considering that you are putting forth time and effort into posting a coherent and persuasive statement as to why people should subscribe to their product, I can't imagine they'd be too upset at the last part.
I might look into it myself
