Non combat classes, something I have yet to see in any game since. Yes some people prefer to avoid combat and roleplay in their roleplaying games! Trader, Musician, Dancer just as valid as any gun or saber wielding profession.

Player built communities. Most MMO's don't have communities, and by communities I don't mean typing on a forum. I mean meaningful interaction and making something together in a game that can stand the test of time. Player built towns and malls were a step ahead of anything else the genre had seen and nothing has compared since!

Crafting system. Immense is the word for this. No clone crafting where everyone can make the exact same article as every other random joe who decided to pick up a tool. If you wanted to be the best crafter out there who brought in the most profit you had to get the best materials mined from various planets, have the best tools and best stat boosters. It took hard work, grafting and spirit to get to the lofty heights to call yourself a master crafter. MMO's these days are just ridiculous on the crafting front compared to what SoE brought to the table.

I will miss all the people whining about Pre-X this and Pre-X that. Why people complain about something that happened over 5 years ago I don't get.

@Yellowdancer

Because it was a terrible decision that even the devs agree was a bad idea.

Creature Handler and Bounty Hunting. Those were my two favorite professions.
The integration of the land game and the space game was genius too. I'm still amazed by the way they did the multi-player ships. Actually walking around in my own YT-1300 was a great high.
And my last mention will be the simple sandbox style of the game, which is what really allowed most of the best aspects of the game. I loved it so much that when I gave up on NGE I moved to EVE. (Which seems lately is likely to burn as well, but thats another blog).

NGE!
It has given me something to focus my considerable hate and rage on for so many years now ... it will be sorely missed.

However on to bigger and better things to hate and rage about!

Dear CCP Zulu i am writing to you to express my utter disgust at .. .. ... ....

@macscarfe LOL. Didn't I just say that that's another blog. Seriously, I hope CCP is paying attention and getting a lil reminder of what happens when you try to shove a bad idea down players' throats.

• The Storyteller System
• A whole slew of completely non-combat classes
• Player homesteading almost anywhere on most planets
• Shopping in uniquely decorated player shops
• Being able to wear any kind of player clothing from character creation and having clothing that is purely aesthetic (as it should be)
• Being able to commission Image Designers to alter your appearance
• Designing a Player City with your friends
• Common and readily available multi-passenger vehicles
• Being followed around by an R2 unit...

Space Combat.

As far as I'm concerned, SWTOR does not have Space Combat at all (rail shooter... blergh!). And short of trying to get the ancient X-Wing Alliance working on my rig, Dec 15th is the end of flying Star Wars starships for me. A sad, sad day.

It was nice to have a house you could decorate but it was not nice being rubberbanded as you tried to drive across a landscape strewn with empty houses, only to find your mission had spawned inside a house.

It was nice to have a complex crafting system but it was not nice to have to wait 6 months for a spawn of decent quality resources only to find they were camped to death by the same long established crafters who benefitted hugely because they started to play before you did.

It was nice to have space combat but it was not nice that the vast majority of players left because the ground game was altered so radically and no amount of space combat was going to compensate for that.

Having your friends be with you on your ship in space, while you fly they shoot, walk around, etc. Phenomenal.

Sure would have been nice if you guys talked this sweetly about the game before. Instead before it's death, all I heard was rage rage rage.

I won't miss anything. Because I'll be playing SWGEmu. Pre-cu system with all kinds of new things that weren't in the original game (new planets, new weapons, new armor, maybe new jedi death system)

Thank-you for that, I will have to check out SWGEmu. Perhaps the game will live on in this way. Also from what has been said here I really feel like I missed out on something so will have to jump in for a bit. I never tried the game because it was SOE.

Shooting stuff aound my republic guards and captains, escorting me. Being in a very low population faction was the best part of it. Since these days it is kind of overhyped to be a bad guy...
Of course the housing was brutal!
Nostalgic feelings..
