Last month we brought you exclusive news of two new TERA BAMs (that's an En Masse acronym for big-ass monster, if you're wondering). This month we're moving on from the fimbrilisks and vampirs and cozying up to a pair of new cold-hearted killers that inhabit the icy wastes in the far reaches of Arborea.
First up is our friend the wendigo, and what a clever, inventive, and unabashedly large friend he is. Despite being a BAM, the wendigo is known for his nuance, particularly when it comes to his unique vocalization techniques.
Next we have the ice giant, and as his name implies, he's also quite massive. Unlike the wendigo, ice giants are about as lacking in subtlety as it's possible to be, and most examples of the species spend their days plotting the return of their glory days while trampling unwary adventurers who stray too close their domains. Read up on both new BAMs and check out the exclusive screens after the break.
Wendigos
Masters of the icy wastes, wendigos are a proud race with deep ties to the dream. Clever and inventive, the crystalline wendigos fight to survive in a world that has all but passed them by. Wendigo tribes are often categorized as brutes, but Mysterium scholars claim the wendigos communicate through resonant frequencies and vocalizations. Without that resonance, the nuance in wendigo speech is lost. Federation prospectors covet the same eldritch shards the wendigos need to survive, but the outnumbered wendigos can't compete on even footing. The wars on Shara force everyone to make hard choices. If the wendigos can't adapt, they'll die.
Ice Giants
Powerful and bitter, the ice giants are among the few survivors of the Day of Fire, the day when the gods unleashed their fury to extinguish the rebellious giants. The few survivors hide in the corners of the world, plundering what they can to survive. The giant civilization is gone, as are most of their technological marvels. The giants that yet live are insular and angry, not bold and innovative. Like all giants, the ice-dwellers dream of power and ache for their long-gone age of supremacy -- and plot its return.

btw guys, J-TERA has just been announced to start CBT on July 1st and release July 29th.
and according to EME/Frogster we would get our CBT exactly one month after J-TERA is out...
NA/EU Tera should be looking at a late September/ Early October release...

Wait, so J-Tera is going to go from CBT straight to release? I seriously hope NA gets a OBT, there are some issues with this game that havent been resolved, and if i cant get into the CBT then i would expect an OBT. I do not want to waste $50 to try out the game.

wow, that fast? after reading the latest dev interview, it sounded like they still had some major decisions to make.
still, though, i'm stoked for this game and hope En Masse has some success. if they interact with the community constantly and provide consistent, frequent updates like Trion has been doing, i think they have a good chance of carving a solid niche in the fantasy segment.

If you look at the core structure of this game, you can see the potential of the greatest MMO to date. Doing poor in the Korean market means nothing, the NA market would be perfect for this game. Don't retreat, pour more into development now!
PVE\PVP servers
the best combat system in a long time
Cutting edge graphics
Gear dyes, and item skinning (this came with latest patch)

Yeah, I lost some excitement for TERA when I got into RIFT, but if TERA is a quality game, and manages to pull off more than JUST having amazing combat and killer looks/animation - I will be leaving RIFT for it. But if it turns out to flop, I won't be as disappointed as I would have been, because RIFT is still great fun.

Exactly if the game doesn't do that great in Korea it means there is hope for the US/EU market. Just like Aion was nice in Korea it sucked here.

We seem to be very different players, Koreans seem to be all about the quest grinding, in many of their MMOs. We tend to want gameplay at endgame, and not always rerolling alts (some do, not all). F2P is big over there, but NA take F2P as poor quality and stay. Just different cultures, and what we want out of gaming. Tera seems like a NA game, I hope the development team realizes that and runs with it.

@Alex Oglitchkin Problem is that Tera game developers are IN KOREA and ARE KOREANS, so if K-Tera is not doing great in Korea they will probably make everything to make Tera be nice for Korean players (it's theirs main target market u know and they want to make most profits there due to fact how many Koreans are gamers, also it would be weird if Korean dev team would abandon and don't care with theirs own "main" Korean playerbase and con't care about theirs feelings about game) - which may not be so nice for Western players - or they can just dump game and update / develop new patches slowly coz of "game is giving small $$$".
I have played in K-Tera and it hadn't felt "so western" to me to explain why Koreans are not enjoying it. And I still think K-Tera (if still won't "make profits") will be developer more and more to be nice for Koreans players, instead of Western ones.
Just mine thoughts tho ;)

Why would that be bad? The games been out for a while in S.Korea, so any major issues they uncovered from that release would be noted and passed on to En Masse.
They will likely have an OBT, but even if they dont, It still looks like an amazing game.

I think this game will play great even if it looks retarded. I hate their monster design team.

Is this game coming over here eventually? Or are we just going to hear news about it for the next two years. o_O

We need to remember that J TERA is using the Korean client as-is. They aren't using the modified/westernized client that NA/EU is going to launch with. There is almost no changes between J TERA and K TERA, only translation.

Lucky Japan. Tera without the "Westernization" treatment would be preferable for me at least. Have yet to see anything added(removed) from EME/Frogster that is actually benefiting the players aside from controller support.
